Workit Health Expands Telehealth Addiction Care Program to New Jersey

https://www.prweb.com/

Online Therapy

We’re excited to join the communities and organizations in New Jersey impacting the overdose crisis, and leverage our technology and care teams to provide long-term recovery for New Jerseyans.

Today, Workit Health announced the expansion of its virtual, on-demand individualized services for addiction care to New Jersey. The telehealth substance use and opioid use disorder B-corporation will open an outpatient clinic in Hamilton, near Trenton in Mercer County in order to provide teleMAT alongside its coaching and counseling programs. Workit Health’s easy-to-use web and phone apps and robust EMR synthesize machine learning with patient-led design to enable smarter interventions and more personalized care. The company’s outcomes prove their commitment to disrupting the cycle of high-cost, inefficient addiction services, with a higher adherence and retention rate than traditional treatment types at 1/10th of the cost.

Annual opioid-related overdose deaths in New Jersey are nearly five times those both from car crashes and firearms. In 2018, the state experienced record drug deaths for the fourth straight year, with the overwhelming number of deaths being opioid-related. It’s estimated that even in the face of this crisis only one quarter of addiction treatment providers offer medication like buprenorphine — recognized as the gold standard of care for opioid-use disorder by SAMHSA.

“New Jersey has taken the lead on expanding access to buprenorphine by allowing paramedics to offer treatment,” says Lisa McLaughlin, Workit Health’s Co-CEO. “We’re excited to join the communities and organizations in New Jersey impacting the overdose crisis, and leverage our technology and care teams to provide long-term recovery for New Jerseyans.”

“We know that 90% of addiction care costs in New Jersey are utilized by people who have already received treatment but found it ineffective – Workit Health is something different and more accessible for this population,” says Robin McIntosh, Workit Health’s Co-CEO. “Members in our Michigan and California programs are thriving, and we’re ready to bring these same outcomes to the entire state of New Jersey.”

Workit Health removes barriers while solving for social determinants of health by allowing home-based, digital access to clinicians and counselors. Following an initial in-person visit for the teleMAT program, members access all follow-up care via web and phone apps, including video visits with clinicians, online recovery groups, messaging with a care team, personalized therapy-based courses, and at-home drug testing.

About Workit Health: Workit Health is an addiction healthcare B-corporation offering online, on-demand evidence-based addiction treatment including telehealth medication for opioid use disorder. Workit Health partners with healthcare organizations to deliver an innovative digital health solution that blends the best of human-centered design, technology, and science. Through mobile and web apps, members meet with clinicians and Master’s level coaches and complete self-set recovery goals. Workit Health offers 24/7 recovery that fits into daily life, designed by experts. Learn more at workithealth.com.

Meridian Senior Living Communities Recognize National Alzheimer’s Disease Month

Walkers at Walk to end alzheimer's event

Walking to end Alzheimer’s. Participants from Meridian Senior Living’s community Gentry Park Orlando.

When someone in the family has dementia, it changes everything.

Building upon the momentum of raising over $35,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s as a National Team Member, Meridian Senior Living, LLC (Meridian) will recognize National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in November and host free memory care workshops in their communities. In 1983, President Ronald Reagan dedicated November to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) to increase awareness and demystify fallacies surrounding the disease. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, in 2019 there are 5.8 million Americans living with AD and this figure is expected to triple by year 2050, AD ranks as the sixth leading cause of death in the nation and is incurable, AD follows a 14 year course and goes untreated for half of that time, screening is vital as intervention is most effective during the early course of the disease, heart healthy diet and lifestyle help prevent AD, and the total cost in the U.S. associated with AD in 2019 is estimated at $290 billion. Understanding the disease has become increasingly important in helping afflicted family members and loved ones experience better outcomes.

“When someone in the family has dementia, it changes everything,” states Sue Johnston, VP Program Development. “We understand the challenges you face and know that it is essential for you to have support, education, and an understanding of how important it is to take care of yourself.”

To offer families and caregivers strategies to cope with the challenges AD presents, Meridian communities are hosting free sessions: Caregiver Café and Mini Dementia Workshops based on Meridian’s exclusive memory care programming: Montessori Moments in Time (MMIT). The goals of MMIT are to enhance living for those with memory challenges by using the five directional paths. Each directional path has the resident and family in mind to encourage independence and helps deal with the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias. These paths include Family Connections, Health and Wellness, Dining Experience, Life Engagement, and Team Promise. Family Connections focus on the well-being of our families through social gatherings, volunteer opportunities, support, and education. Health and Wellness is based on providing satisfying experiences, promoting independence, and encouraging positive behavior while maintaining respect and dignity. The Dining Experience leverages meals as a time to reminisce, create new memories, maximize independence, and promote socializing, all in an inviting environment. Life Engagement includes scheduled programs that support the whole person allowing residents to function at their highest potential, giving them a sense of purpose and overall well-being. Team Promise focuses on developing care partnerships through ongoing education and training.

The Caregiver Café program offers an opportunity for caregivers of loved ones who suffer from AD or dementia to participate in a forum to ask questions while being surrounded by others going through their same situation. Community onsite experts serve as a resource to provide support for the caregivers and to help them better understand their loved one’s condition. Common topics include: “Alive Inside”, Tips for the Holidays”, and “Care for the Caregiver”.

Understanding the challenges caregivers of those who suffer from Alzheimer’s or dementia face daily, onsite experts run the free Mini-Dementia workshops that cover topics of importance to caregivers. Each month, the workshops cover a different topic regarding memory impairment. Sample topics include: “Three Stages of Alzheimer’s”, “Holiday Tips for Caregivers”, and “What is Dementia?”.

Scheduled times and chef prepared meals for these free workshops vary by community location. Since there are limited spaces in these workshops, interested participants should reserve their spot by contacting a Meridian community near them by visiting: meridian.com/communities. Core Courses for Certification Offered Live at 2020 iaedp™ Symposium

“We work to maximize the educational opportunities for all the professionals who attend the Symposium. A professional’s time is valuable, which is why we developed the two-day live format,” said Bonnie Harken, Managing Director at the iaedp™ Foundation.

The iaedp™ Foundation, recognized for excellence in first-quality education and training standards to an international multidisciplinary group of healthcare treatment providers who treat the full spectrum of eating disorder problems, will once again offer the highly popular Core Courses needed for certification in a live, two-day, 12-hour track at Symposium 2020. The courses are regularly offered in a self-paced, online format.

The Core Courses will begin just prior to the start of the iaedp™ annual Symposium, running Wednesday and Thursday, March 25 – 26, 2020. Opening day for the Symposium itself is March 26, and events continue through March 29 at the Omni at ChampionsGate in Orlando. The Core Courses may be taken to satisfy the requirements for the Educational Designation, Certification, or may be taken as a refresher. If a professional is pursuing certification, all other prerequisites regarding education, experience and supervision apply. Both the Educational Designation and Certification require a successful completion of a written final examination post-Symposium.

Each three-hour class is presented by eating disorder professionals nationally known in the field for their treatment expertise along with a co-presenter from the iaedp™ certification committee. “We work to maximize the educational opportunities for all the professionals who attend the Symposium. A professional’s time is valuable, which is why we developed the two-day live format,” said Bonnie Harken, Managing Director at the iaedp™ Foundation.

“It also can be difficult for many professionals to find time for certification training – and by offering the courses prior to the Symposium, they’re able to accomplish as much as possible,” added Harken.

The Core Courses are offered as a separate track for $375 or combined with a 2020 Symposium registration for an additional $250. Course titles are: Overview of Eating Disorders, Therapeutic Treatments for Eating Disorders, Nutrition Therapy for Eating Disorders, and Medical Treatment of Eating Disorders.

Research Backed Tips to Supercharge Your Morning Routine and the Rest of Your Life

News Image

“Building a solid foundation for beginning your day will help you achieve success in every area of your life,” says Carter “the hours of the morning are the most critical time of the day.”

Given recent advances in brain imaging and neuroscience, we now know that the brain is affected by every experience, thought, emotion, and every second of stress. How much of your life do you spend in the present moment? How much time do you spend daydreaming, ruminating about the past, or worrying about the future?

“There are many different ways to train your brain and improve your cognitive skills such as mindful reading, writing, brain teasers, —along with getting enough sleep, physical activity and of course a few minutes of meditation,” says Carter, co-author with his wife, Dr. Kirti Salwe Carter, of The Morning Mind: Use Your Brain to Master Your Day and Supercharge Your Life, #1 Amazon Bestseller & Forbes Best Self-Help. (http://www.themorningmind.com).

Carter offers 4 ways to train your brain and supercharge your life

1. Reflect On What Makes You Happy To Be Alive. “The subconscious responds very powerfully to feeling, and the more of a sensory experience you can make your ref, the more effective it will be,” says Carter.

2. Get enough shut-eye. “Sleep is an essential part of physical health,” says Carter “when we sleep, the body performs a vast array of therapeutic and healing functions that detox, repair, and heal the body and brain.”

3. Exercise your body as well as mind. “Take a 15 to 30 minute walk each morning, — or yoga, swimming, dance or do yard work if you prefer,” Carter. “ Exercise stimulates the brain plasticity by stimulating-growth of new connections between cells in a wide array of important cortical areas of the brain.” Carter says,

4. Take control and train your brain with meditation.“Meditation trains the brain to be in the present moment, and to return to that focus when negative thinking and emotions intrude,” says Carter.

Carter says offers 8 simple steps to happiness and achieving a relaxed state of mind in only five to eight minutes. 1) Sit comfortably, 2) Perform a shoulder roll, 3) Gently close your eyes, 4) Breathe in through your nose and count to four, 5) Exhale through your nose and count to four, 6) Be aware of the sensation of the breath entering the nostrils, 7. Keep attention on the breathing and when you become distracted by thoughts, do not try to stop thinking, just observe the loss of presence and return your attention to breathing, and 8) continue this exercise for five to ten minutes or until you experience a calm mind, and practice daily.

The 4th Annual Amber Waves of Grain Festival Benefiting Veterans Appoints Off-Road Driver Justin Peck as Grand Marshall and Co-MC

100% of net proceeds will be donated to participating 501(c)3 veteran groups

The 4th Annual Amber Waves of Grain Craft Beer Festival Benefiting veterans

“I carry profound respect toward veterans and their selflessness serving our country. I will do whatever I can to support them through my verticals and voice. It is a privilege to participate in the Amber Waves of Grain Festival.” ~ Justin Peck #49

The All America Riders in partnership with the Blue Star Mothers (CA30) and Stone Church Brewing are gearing up for the 4th Annual Amber Waves of Grain Craft Beer Festival in support of American veterans on Nov. 2, 2019 from 12 PM to 4 PM at The Shops at Dos Lagos (located at 2780 Cabot Dr., Corona, CA 92883). California’s largest craft beer festival dedicated to those who have served will gift 100% of the proceeds from the event to the Riverside County veteran community. The Amber Waves of Grain committee is proud to announce champion Lucas Oil and Best in the Desert off-road driver and Mental Health Advocate, Justin Peck #49, as the Grand Marshall of this year’s festival. Justin Peck will co-MC alongside “The Marine of Comedy” Master Sergeant Kevin Davis and deliver an impromptu speech surrounding mental health.

Festival attendees will enjoy a craft beer garden featuring over 40 microbreweries and 4 homebrew clubs; UNLIMITED 4oz tastings with a commemorative festival pint glass; classic, vintage and current military cars and jeeps; military parade (12 PM-12:30 PM) w/ WWII Veterans, historical reenactment groups from the Revolutionary War to the Vietnam War, live music by the K-Tel All-Stars (singing your favorite 8-track songs from the 1970s), Justin Peck autograph signings, vendors, comedy, food trucks, and fun for the whole family.

Since 2016 the Amber Waves of Grain Festival has raised and distributed over $96,000 dollars to veteran support organizations such as Blue Star Mothers (CA30), All American Riders, American Legion, VFW, Marine Corps League, Cal-Vet, 4 Paws 4 Patriots Service Dogs, Southern California Wheelchair Veterans Association, Bob Hope USO, A New Start For Veterans, and many more. Funds have helped with the Christmas Dinner for Homeless Veterans, provided transportation and meals to homeless veterans, serve wounded members of the military who are attempting to return to civilian life with service dogs to provide both physical and emotional support, and to the Tadpole Foundation, who takes veterans to the high Eastern Sierras for hiking and kayaking to Montana for trout fishing and horseback riding, to name a few.

“I carry profound respect toward veterans and their selflessness serving our country. I will do whatever I can to support them through my verticals and voice. With over 30 percent of active duty and reserve military personnel deployed with mental health conditions requiring treatment – that’s approximately 730,000 men and women, less than 50 percent of returning vets receiving any mental health treatment at all, and 22 veterans dying by suicide every day, those statistics are alarming. It is a privilege to participate in the Amber Waves of Grain Festival.”         ~ Justin Peck

Tickets for the Amber Waves of Grain Festival can be purchased for $40 (general admission) and $100 (100 Patriots Who Care) at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/amber-waves-of-grain-craft-beer-festival-for-veterans-2019-tickets-69238501221?aff=ebdiglgoogleseo.

California Governor Signs Bill Making Autism Service Providers Mandated Reporters

https://www.prweb.com/

Center for Autism and Related Disorders, LLC (CARD) Logo

Children with autism may not always be able to advocate for themselves, so it’s imperative that all individuals who provide services to them are trained to recognize and report suspected abuse.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed Assembly Bill 189, a bill authored by Assembly Member Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D – Los Angeles) and co-sponsored by the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD). The bill, which adds autism service providers to the state’s list of individuals who are mandated reporters, received overwhelming support from both the California Assembly and Senate.

By making qualified autism service providers, professionals and paraprofessionals mandated reporters, AB 189 makes it a crime for these individuals not to report suspected child abuse or neglect.

“Children with autism may not always be able to advocate for themselves, so it’s imperative that all individuals who provide services to them are trained to recognize and report suspected abuse,” said Assembly Member Kamlager-Dove.

“We are so thankful for Assembly Member Kamlager-Dove’s dedication to California’s autism community,” said Doreen Granpeesheh, Ph.D., BCBA-D, chief executive officer and founder of CARD. “Children with autism are at a higher risk for abuse, so it’s critical for those who provide services to these children to be trained to recognize and report abuse.”

California is home to more autism treatment providers than any other state, and the field of autism treatment continues to grow to meet the needs of individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) will now explicitly require autism treatment providers and their clinical employees to report suspected incidents of abuse or neglect.

According to Assembly Member Kamlager-Dove, “Mandated reporter laws are in place to prevent children, along with at-risk individuals, from being abused and to end abuse or neglect at the earliest possible stage. Adding qualified autism service providers to the list of individuals who are mandated reporters under CANRA will help to protect children on the autism spectrum.”

Autism treatment providers will be required to provide their clinical employees with a statement informing them of their mandated reporter status and explaining their obligations to report suspected child abuse and neglect. To make a report, a mandated reporter must immediately contact the appropriate law enforcement agency. The new law takes effect January 1, 2020.

L.E. Wiesenauer’s newly released “Combat PTSD Seeking Jesus” is a poignant healing journey for veterans, their families, and the Christian community

News Image

“Combat PTSD Seeking Jesus”: a beautiful tool that will guide one in coping with PTSD after traumatic phases and renewing their life through God’s strength and power as they go over these pages of mind-clearing messages of healing. “Combat PTSD Seeking Jesus” is the creation of published author L.E. Wiesenauer, a 20-year member of National Alliance on Mental Illness of Madison County as second vice president. He is diagnosed with combat-related PTSD as part of Operation Rolling Thunder’s killing of North Vietnamese civilians. He is also on the advisory board creating awareness regarding need for services for veterans and families experiencing PTSD. Since 2000, he has been writing poetry as therapy and consequences of combat, and transitioned from patient to advocate and poet.

Wiesenauer shares, “Combating PTSD not only affects the veteran as anxiety, depression, memory loss, and nightmares. There are problems with intimacy. It is very difficult for your spouse or significant other not to become very stressed at constantly being awakened by screams and, sometimes, physical abuse. Same as alcoholism, untreated PTSD will create dysfunctional generations.

“NAMI (national alliance on mental illness) provides evidence-based truth that veterans who nourish their faith will do 30–40 percent better at coping with their mental illness and preserving relationships. God has not abandoned you. Lester Sumrall’s favorite quote, ‘Feed your faith and starve your doubts,’ is still true for treating PTSD. I prayed for Jesus to heal my PTSD and found, through answered prayer, that Jesus forgave my terrible sin and healed my spirit.

“I became functional again, and just as Dixie became God’s social worker, I pray for my book Combat PTSD Seeking Jesus to become a path for veterans, their families, and all Christians to realize the healing prayer that God’s love provides. My hope also is congregations across America will acknowledge veterans and their families nourishing them with love and prayer.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, L.E. Wiesenauer’s new book is an inspiring read written for everyone, especially combat veterans and their family, that will allow them to renew their emotional strengths and abilities to be able to carry life again and achieve their goals.

Consumers can purchase “Combat PTSD Seeking Jesus” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

HeroZona National Veteran Summit Launches Bridge Forum to Help and Hire Veterans with PTSD

The HeroZona Foundation has announced a Bridge Forum on Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel (260 W. Dunlap Ave.) in Phoenix, which will discuss mental health and first responder veterans. A study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration found that only 50% of returning vets who need veteran mental health treatment will receive these services, which is why the Bridge Forum will aim to start a discussion surrounding how to help and hire those with PTSD.

The Bridge Forum will take place on day one of the three-day HeroZona National Veteran Summit, a multi-day experience for America’s veterans including Arizona’s 640,000 veterans, 38,000 active duty service members and 1,000 veteran owned companies. The third annual summit will return to Phoenix Nov. 5 through 7.

The Bridge Forum theme will include mental health professionals, veterans, first responders and law enforcement discussing how to break the stigma surrounding mental illness. The forum will focus on current efforts within the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Arizona Coalition for Military Families, Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police, Arizona Fire District Association, and community resources to ensure first responders who have served in the military have resources to mental healthcare throughout their career after military service.

“Bridge Forums are an essential tool in bridging the gap between veterans, mental health professionals, first responders and law enforcement,” said HeroZona Foundation Founder and U.S. Army Desert Storm Veteran, Alan “AP” Powell. “Our goal is to empower veterans who have PTSD and let them know that there are resources available to help them succeed in life after service.”

Presenters from Veterans Affairs will highlight current clinical and research activities and demonstrate strategies first responders can utilize to enhance their work, gain support from family members and optimize their health. Community organizations will also provide resources available in Phoenix for first responders and their families. The final presentation will be from first responders and fire and police department clinicians who will discuss support and services within their departments.

Bridge Forum presenters and panelist will include Veterans Affairs, Be Connected, Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, Arizona Health Cost Containment System, Department of Economic Security, Veteran’s Court, AZ Coalition for Military Families, Mercy Care, Arizona Statewide Public Safety Peer Support Association, 100 Club, COPS, Emergency Responders Assistance Program and Institute of Healing Memories. Sponsors will include Arizona State University and the Department of Veterans’ Services.

The three-day HeroZona National Veteran Summit is free and open to active duty service members, National Guard and Army Reserve, veterans, military spouses and caregivers. To learn more about the
