Writers In Treatment, an organization dedicated to reducing the stigma of substance abuse and mental illness by showcasing the talents and contributions of authors and artists, will honor a pair of inspiring media personalities at the 11th Annual Experience, Strength & Hope Awards Gratitude Dinner, December 15 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

Sunrise Detox Centers Toys for Tots Campaign Kicks Off!

We are so proud to be a part of The Marine Toys for Tots drive to support the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country.

Sunrise Detox Centers is happy to partner with The Marine Toys for Tots Program for the 2021 toy drive. Words can’t express how excited the team is to be participating this year! Everyone is so proud to be a part of The Marine Toys for Tots drive to support the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country.

Amidst all the uncertainty in today’s workforce and economy, we have too many underprivileged children. They deserve a happy holiday season, and it’s our duty to help. The goal is to collect at least 800 toys this year between our eight locations. We have no doubt we can achieve that. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if Santa will need a sidecar for his sleigh to handle the overflow.

Giving is a much more important element of happiness than receiving; therefore, being a part of the annual Toys for Tots Drive brings our staff and clients so much joy and fulfillment. It’s simple, giving back to those less fortunate makes such a significant impact on someone’s life, encourages us to do better, and evokes gratitude.

Want to join us in the giving? Contributing is easy, simply come by one of our locations listed below OR visit the link listed to donate a toy via The Amazon Wish List and choose the center you’d like to have it sent to; we’ll do the rest.

Eturi’s OurPact App Gives Parents Control Over Their Kids’ Internet Use While a New Investigation Looks Into the Harm of Instagram on Children

Parents can keep their children safe when online with OurPact.

OurPact allows parents to manage their child’s screen.

“We developed OurPact to provide parents with the ability to not only protect their kids, but to keep them focused on what matters most.”

In a surprising and historic announcement, a bipartisan group of 10 state attorneys general have launched an investigation into the harmful effects of Instagram on children and teenagers. More states are sure to follow suit as technology continues to overtake the lives of children across the country. At issue is whether Meta, the social media company formerly known as Facebook, (Nasdaq: FB) violated the consumer protection laws and “put the public at risk.” The investigation comes after leaked internal documents show the company’s own researchers found that the Instagram platform can damage the mental health and body image of young users and can amplify dangerous behaviors such as depression, anxiety and eating disorders.

While the attorneys general are seeking practices and policies from Meta, Facebook and Instagram that promote the health, safety and welfare of kids and teens nationwide, concerned parents can take immediate action to protect their children by utilizing the innovative tools of the OurPact app. This leading parental control app for both iOS and Android devices allows parents to monitor, guard and control their children’s online and internet exposure on mobile devices. It also serves as an all-in-one time management solution enabling parents to limit their child’s online access at their discretion and track a child’s location at any time all from the convenience of their mobile device.

The OurPact cross-platform app (iOS and Android) not only puts parents in control of how much time their kids can spend online, but just as importantly, what type of content and apps they are allowed to utilize. From text messages and app blocking, to website filtering and locator abilities, parents now have a wide-range of online management supervisory tools to keep their children safe from unwanted, unsolicited and intrusive or even harmful content. To date, this ground-breaking technology is used by millions of parents nationwide and is widely recognized as the leading mobile device management tool on the market.

“We developed OurPact to provide parents with the ability to not only protect their kids, but to keep them focused on what matters most: family, outdoor activities, social interaction and scholastic endeavors,” says Amir Moussavian, CEO of Eturi Corp. “We’re proud that millions of families rely on OurPact on a daily basis.” By monitoring and limiting their screen time, parents are not only instilling children with their family’s values and priorities, but they’re helping them develop a healthy relationship with technology instead of letting technology become the driving influence in their lives.

As technology continues to grow, expand and further imbed itself in our culture as well as the lives of our children, parenting has never been more challenging. From social media to gaming to online apps such as TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram to round-the-clock texting, teens and even young children are using digital devices literally anytime and anywhere. As a result, OurPact is the perfect solution for parents who want to protect their kids and keep them safe in the technology driven world we live in. In fact, OurPact not only can remove apps from devices, but it can take screen shots during in-app use to give parents a clear view into the content their kids are engaging with.

Eturi Corp. is the nation’s leading developer of mobile device management programs and technology. The company’s flagship cross-platform app, OurPact, was created to empower parents nationwide with the tools to put them in control of how their kids engage with the online universe. It’s the ultimate tool that gives parents the peace-of-mind they want in today’s fast-paced, technology driven world. For more information on Eturi or the OurPact app, visit eturi.com.

Montreal’s ‘Lifeline’ a Local Voice for ‘National Addictions Awareness Week’

Lifeline, a non-sectarian recovery and prevention center that offers hope and healing to all affected by addiction, today presented its addiction counseling services in advance of National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW), an initiative of the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) that runs from November 21 to 27.

Lifeline’s team of social workers, therapists, additions counsellors and youth counsellors offer a range of innovative treatment options and comprehensive at-risk youth programs. Where appropriate, referrals are made to other professionals and agencies. People suffering from substance (alcohol and narcotics) and behavioral (gambling, eating, sex, co-dependency etc.) addictions and their families are guided through a healing and recovery process. With a few exceptions, services are free-of-charge and no one is denied service based on ability to pay. Lifeline is an independent non-profit organization that receives zero government support and is entirely funded through the generosity of the community.

Lifeline applies a distinctly progressive approach to addiction services:

  • Services are immediate / No wait times – Service level of a private for-profit facility
  • Family focus – Counseling provided to partners, parents and siblings of addicts, permitting families to heal together
  • Outpatient model for treating addictions – Versus on-location rehabilitation center
  • High success rate – Unique screening, holistic approach and extensive after-care proven to help overwhelming majority of clients

“The Covid-19 pandemic has been an awful time for addiction – people suffering have been pushed towards addiction while existing addicts have experienced worsening despair,” says Rabbi Benyamin Bresinger, Director, Lifeline. “Addiction is complex – a spiritual, emotional and physical disorder that often stems from isolation and loneliness. While their problems do not usually begin with drugs, alcohol or other addictive behaviors, addicts often reach for self-sabotaging behaviors as temporary relief from their pain and isolation.”

“Our vision is founded on the belief that helping people develop intimate relationships with themselves and others is the solution to addiction. We support our friends at the CSSA on the occasion of NAAW. Our message to the community is simple: If you or anyone you love is suffering from addiction, contact us. We are here to help,” adds Rabbi Bresinger.

Christians Drug Rehab Celebrates Life through a Unique Christian-Based Spiritual Program

LINKS Christian Tract, a renowned drug and alcohol program at Northbound Treatment Center, merges the revolutionary scientific approach with faith-based aspects to help Christians overcome substance use disorder and its detrimental effects. With their faith-based Treatment, individuals seeking physical, mental, and spiritual relief from the damaging impact of alcohol and drug addiction will benefit from a wide range of treatment modalities. All types of addiction, including alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc., are progressive, dangerous, and deadly diseases. Although it primarily affects the person struggling with substance abuse, addiction is inevitably the most common culprit behind broken relationships needing immediate healing. Treatment is necessary as without professional support, stopping the cycle of abuse is difficult, if not futile, even after repeated attempts to escape addiction.

LINKS Christian treatment program provides unparalleled therapeutic and faith-based support, with its effectiveness largely influenced by the individual approach to each patient and their unresolved traumas. Combining the latest scientific findings on overcoming addiction with their spiritual 12-step program, the rehab’s team of addiction specialists has all the necessary tools to help lost Christians find the way to wholehearted recovery.

“We work according to the patient’s belief system, often originating in childhood but also in adult life, which has an enormous impact on the emotions, cognition, and behavior, the basis of which lies in the family dynamics – the prevailing roles and pacts,” said Paul Alexander, creator of LINKS Christian treatment program. “Many patients admit that it is the faith that gives them enough strength, courage, and motivation to fight the addiction, and these subjective experiences are time and again verified by massive research on substance abuse. Addicts looking for a life-transforming change of conquering addiction, or rather live with dignity with their addiction, experience a continuous struggle for their sobriety, perseverance, faith, and themselves. The spiritually safe space our Christians Drug Rehab provides to its patients creates a necessary for Christians reference to God backed by the conventional therapeutic methods.”

The Christian rehab program offers bible studies, 12-step meetings, church services, daily morning devotions, Christian counseling services, and the signature Celebrate Recovery meetings to facilitate individual needs in combating addiction. Addiction is a disease affecting people from all walks of life, so living in faith is not always a guarding shield against it. While learning to lead a spiritual life in accordance with God’s will and through his love is a devotion that works and brings an individual closer to recovery, the healing starts the moment you and your loved one enter the Christian drug program.

New Substance Use Prevention and Treatment Services Coming to Northern Colorado

SummitStone Health Partners has been awarded a $2.9M grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This grant provides Bridge Services funding for Enhanced Medication Assisted Treatment (eMAT), Enhanced Intensive Outpatient (eIOP) treatment, Care Coordination, Outreach, and additional beds at the Crisis Stabilization Unit and Garcia House residential treatment facility for people with mental illness and co-occurring disorders.

In Larimer County, 10% of all adults have a co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorder. Of these, nearly 50% will never receive any behavioral health treatment due to cost, access to treatment or stigma associated with the diagnosis. These numbers have dramatically increased due to the impacts of the COVID pandemic and are disproportionately affecting LatinX and BIPOC communities. The Bridge Services funding will help mitigate the pandemic’s impact and support the expansion of a comprehensive array of evidence-based services for marginalized, underinsured and underrepresented communities.

Additionally, there is an evaluation component that will allow accurate tracking of program effectiveness across the entire Larimer County substance use disorder (SUD) ecosystem, including within the Larimer County Correctional Facilities MAT Program, the Colorado Opioid Synergy – Larimer and Weld (CO-SLAW) Project and SummitStone.

“It is very exciting to have this funding to help move forward with new and enhanced services for our community. I’m particularly interested in the opportunity to have an evaluation component, where we will be able to demonstrate outcomes and results for the hard work that is done,” said SummitStone CEO Michael Allen.

The grant award began funding new programming in October 2021 and will run through October2023, by which point the Larimer County Behavioral Health Services Facility is slated to be operational.

About SummitStone Health Partners: SummitStone Health Partners is the not-for-profit behavioral health provider for Northern Colorado and Larimer County. Since 1957, SummitStone’s mission has been to provide unsurpassed mental health and substance use prevention, intervention and treatment services. SummitStone now serves more than 10,000 community members across Larimer County annually, which includes a Behavioral Health Urgent Care and Crisis Stabilization Unit located at 1217 Riverside Ave. in Fort Collins.

Labroots Unveils Agenda for Its 2nd Annual Opioid Crisis Virtual Event, Hosted on November 3rd, 2021

Opioid Crisis Virtual Event, November 3, 2021

Labroots, the leading scientific social networking website, offering premier, interactive virtual events and webinars, today announced its 2nd annual, Opioid Crisis virtual event to be held on November 3rd, 2021. Free to attend, this educational forum promises to bring together thousands of academia, research scholars, clinicians, and healthcare and behavioral professionals to gain a better understanding and shift the culture around substance use and addiction and learn more about prevention and recovery.

The nation is amid an unprecedented opioid epidemic. Prevention and access to treatment for opioid addiction and overdose reversal medications, and better care for individuals with behavioral health while expanding access in the health system remain key components in fighting this crisis. Additionally, research indicates rates of addiction and opioid misuse have increased especially because of COVID-related isolation. To combat this growing crisis, education is critical to address any misconceptions and reduce stigma, and throughout this one-day agenda you’ll hear from prominent speakers on topics including, medications for opioid use, informatics and opioid stewardship, stigma surrounding opioid use disease, and health system delivery of opioid use disease treatment.

Kicking off the day, a stellar keynote delivery presented by Dr. Jennifer Sharpe Potter, Vice President for Research and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of Texas Health Science Center, will identify the ongoing challenges with care delivery for opioid use disorder treatment and how technology and telehealth helps to overcome barriers to access to evidence-based treatment in underserved areas. “Our goal is advancing treatment models that provide treatment on-demand,” commented Jennifer Sharpe Potter, PhD, Vice President for Research at UTHSA. “When someone is ready to seek treatment, that help must be available as close to immediate as possible. And, the treatment offered must be high-quality, evidence-based, and affordable. Treatment works, and everyone is deserving of care, when they want it.”

The complete line up will explore advanced concepts in opioid stewardship, explain current limitations of marketing FDA-approved therapies for the treatment of opioid use disorder, identify advantages of potential new formulations of already FDA-approved therapies, review the opioid epidemic, including base knowledge of what opioids are, use of non-stigmatizing language, and an evidence-based treatment overview. Moreover, risk factors for opioid-induced respiratory depression will be identified and participants will learn how to effectively recognize and respond to a breathing emergency using the antidote naloxone, and a forensic toxicologists perspective will be shared and how they can collaborate with public health and law enforcement agencies in identifying and interpreting opioid concentrations in forensic casework. Rounding out the day, a presentation will cover the definition and epidemiology of stimulant use disorder in the context of co-opioid use and the advancements in pharmacotherapies that can be brought into practice.

Produced on Labroots’ robust platform with the capability to connect across all desktop and mobile devices, the interactive environment encompasses a lobby equipped with a leaderboard and gamification, an auditorium featuring live-streaming video webcasts, poster hall to explore data and engage in live chat conversations, and a networking lounge featuring a coffee corner.

As an approved provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. Program, Labroots offers the opportunity to earn 1 Continuing Education credit per presentation for a maximum of 14 credits.
