AMC Expands Outreach of Thanksgiving Dinner Deliveries Program

“Thanksgiving is no time to go hungry, and the dinner deliveries program is one way we can give something back,” said McCarthy, noting that AMC refers to its residents as VIPs. “This goes to our core goal of making coming home the best part of the day for our VIPs. We’re trying to help them build long-lasting home atmospheres, and this is one way we can communicate that value.”

ErinLynn Scott, Regional Property Coordinator at AMC, has been overseeing the Thanksgiving deliveries since the program’s inception in 2010. In the early years, she said, 150–200 dinners were delivered annually. But since 2020, with COVID and other economic factors, the number of annual dinners has risen to over 300. This year’s 416 meals marked an all-time high for the program.

“The number of dinner deliveries is definitely trending upward,” Scott said, “as COVID hit hard for many families and things are much more expensive now.”

AMC manages 61 different properties throughout Southern California, totaling around 11,000 individual apartment units. Toward the end of October, Community Directors managing each property nominate families they think would be a good fit for the Thanksgiving deliveries that year. The community managers can either let the approved families know in advance or surprise them with their meal the week of Thanksgiving.

“Most of the recipients are overwhelmed,” Scott said. “They’re very emotional and often taken aback that someone recognizes their situation and cares about making their Thanksgiving memorable. At AMC, our VIPs are every bit as much a part of the AMC family as any of us working in the office. That type of attitude really blows them away, and they appreciate us stepping up and showing we care.”

Each dinner delivery offers a cornucopia of goodness, including the following items:

  • 13–15-pound turkey.
  • 10-pound bag of potatoes.
  • 2-pound bag of frozen mixed vegetables.
  • Box of stuffing.
  • Pumpkin pie.

AMC partners with Costco in Laguna for the turkeys and El Super in Santa Ana for the rest of the dinner package inclusions. R³ sorts and delivers the dinner items to three AMC communities in Santa Ana, Fullerton and Riverside that serve as hubs for the other properties close to them. The dinner packages are then delivered by the Community Directors at the individual properties.

Scott said she looks forward to coordinating the program for years to come.

“As our organization continues to grow, this program is something that is still true to each of our hearts,” she said. “It’s always a wonderful way for us to begin the holiday season. It’s so humbling to be a part of bringing such joy to our VIPs.”

Gravitas Medical Inc. Announces SECOND FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for its Entarik System; Pediatric Patients to Benefit from Enteral Nutrition Innovation!

“Since 2016, only eight (8) medical device manufacturers have been granted multiple Breakthrough Designations and only one of those in the same year”, said Jorgen B. Hansen, CEO of Gravitas Medical. “This second designation recognizes the lifesaving potential of Entarik for pediatric and adolescent patients in addition to neonates.” Gravitas Medical previously received FDA approval for adult use of the Entarik platform in March 2023 and Breakthrough Designation for neonates in September 2023. Hansen added, “Entarik will reduce the amount of time pediatric, neonatal, and adult patients spend in intensive care. Reducing lengths of stay and improving patient outcomes is our focus.”

Entarik is designed to aid, in conjunction with institutional protocols, qualified operators (medical professionals) in the placement of the Gravitas Enteral Feeding Tube into the stomach of infant, child, and adolescent patients requiring enteral feeding. The Gravitas Feeding Tube is equipped with sensors designed to provide information about the location of the tube tip relative to the stomach, assisting in reducing the incidence of misplacement during first positioning while continuously monitoring for tube dislodgement. The Gravitas Pediatric Feeding Tube is intended for the administration of nutrition, fluids and medications by the nasoenteric route for pediatric patients who have an intact gastrointestinal tract but are physically unable to manage nutritional intake normally.

Breakthrough Device Designation is Difficult to Earn

Breakthrough Device Designation is difficult to achieve, and Gravitas Medical’s Entarik Feeding System has earned two (2) of the 109 designations reported for 2023 on the FDA website. To earn Breakthrough Designation, a device must demonstrate potential to enhance the treatment or diagnosis of life-threatening or irreversibly debilitating medical conditions and no approved alternatives can exist. The Breakthrough Device program’s benefits include expediting device development, prioritizing subsequent regulatory submissions, and potentially provides for faster reimbursement after clearance.

“This second Breakthrough Designation recognizes the importance of the Gravitas Medical team’s work and Entarik’s potential to save lives of pediatric patients,” concluded Hansen.

About Gravitas Medical

Gravitas Medical Inc. is a Silicon Valley-based medical device company committed to revolutionizing enteral feeding into enteral nutrition intelligence. By harnessing the power of technology, Gravitas Medical transforms gut-related information into actionable insights for caregivers. This approach enables better decision-making, improved patient outcomes, reduced hospital stays, and a decreased overall cost of care.

The George and Melodie Rogers Foundation Gifts $1.5 Million to the Fresno Mission

The Fresno Mission (originally The Fresno Rescue Mission) was founded in 1949 with the purpose of meeting the needs of the community. The new City Center brings together more than 20 different organizations and ministries focused on meeting peoples’ emergency needs and will include housing, a medical clinic, a free grocery store, support services for youth, a coffee shop, and a dinosaur-themed playground.

The George and Melodie Rogers Foundation’s generous donation is a testament to the Rogers family’s commitment to helping their community. “Uncle George devoted his personal and professional life to helping people,” said Casey Rogers, George and Melodie Rogers’ nephew and CFO of the Foundation. “We’re happy to partner with the Fresno Mission to support their City Center, a welcoming haven for Fresno’s homeless.

“The Rogers family is proud to aid those in critical need of housing and emergency services,” continued Rogers. “We’re thankful for this opportunity to help create a pathway and keep my uncle’s legacy alive.”

“The George and Melodie Rogers Foundation’s $1.5 million gift to the Fresno Mission and City Center continues the Rogers family’s generosity,” said PrideStaff Co-CEO Tammi Heaton. “Helping people in the city we serve is a big part of the PrideStaff culture. This gift to help build the City Center is an impactful way to help those in need, strengthen the community, and offer hope to people in their darkest hours while honoring the memory of a man deeply committed to helping others.”

The North Carolina Partnership for Children Wins Aeroflow Breastpumps’ 5th Annual Pumping Room Makeover

“We are thrilled to provide The North Carolina Partnership for Children with the tools needed to create comfortable, inviting spaces for the incredible working mothers whose efforts directly impact and support the families that are a part of the NCPC,” says Jennifer Jordan, Vice President of Aeroflow Breastpumps, Director of Mom & Baby. “The stories the NCPC shared with us around their mission to ensuring the well-being of all of North Carolina’s youngest children, from birth to age five along with their families, aligns with our foundation at Aeroflow Breastpumps, and we couldn’t be happier to support the working parents in our home state.”

“We are very excited to be announced as Aeroflow Breastpumps’ winner this year, as we understand the critical importance of supporting our employees in their roles as parents,” says Amy Cubbage, president at The North Carolina Partnership for Children. “The generous donation from Aeroflow will allow us to develop and improve our pumping room for the many working mothers in our organization and give back to our employees who are working so diligently to provide safe, family-friendly spaces for the youngest North Carolinians and the moms and dads who care for and nurture them.”

In addition to the grand prize donation of $10,000, Aeroflow Breastpumps has also identified four other organizations throughout the U.S. from their list of entries who will receive a donation provided by Lansinoh of free breast pump supplies and accessories for their employees. The Pumping Room Makeover is an annual contest that Aeroflow Breastpumps began in August 2018 in response to an overwhelming amount of feedback from mothers who are tired of nursing and pumping in closets, bathrooms, conference rooms, the car, etc. throughout the workday. These challenging conditions often make it difficult for working moms to produce milk and ultimately forces many to choose between feeding their babies and going back to work. Aeroflow Breastpumps believes that no mother deserves to pump in a bathroom stall and strives to make a difference and create change within the workplace – one pumping room makeover at a time.

News/Media Alliance Grows Membership to Over 2,200 News, Magazine & Digital Media Organizations in 2023

“We are delighted to welcome these 16 news, magazine, and digital media organizations to the Alliance family, and we are grateful for their support and their recognition of the need to share a voice on important issues facing the industry,” stated News/Media Alliance President & CEO Danielle Coffey. “The support of these innovative, multimedia businesses are invaluable as we continue to advocate on behalf of the industry and fight for the future of journalistic and creative content.”

The need to support and sustain quality journalism has reached a new level of urgency this year, as the rapid adoption of generative AI has introduced yet another threat to publishers of original content. The Alliance published a White Paper in October that found AI companies significantly overweight publisher content in their crawling of the web – often while not paying the publishers who invested in producing that content – to train their generative AI systems, coming in direct competition with publishers, as well as infringing on publishers’ copyrights.

The Alliance continues to push for legislation to require Big Tech platforms such as Meta and Google to pay publishers for the use of their content, with the Journalism Competition & Preservation Act (JCPA) being reintroduced in the Senate earlier this year. Canada recently passed similar legislation, which is modeled after the law in Australia that has been extremely successful, and the California State Assembly introduced a state journalism compensation bill that was the subject of a Senate informational hearing last week.

In addition, the News/Media Alliance works on behalf of its members to advocate on press freedom/First Amendment issues, privacy, digital advertising, copyright, postal delivery and more.

New News/Media Alliance members in 2023 include (not a complete list):

  • AlterNet
  • American Craft Council
  • California Broker Magazine
  • The Economist
  • Future PLC
  • G/O Media Inc.
  • Grandstand Publishing LLC
  • The Guardian
  • Hughes Media Corp.
  • Raptive
  • Raw Story
  • Rookie Road
  • Style Media Group Inc.
  • Today Media Inc.
  • Ziff Davis

Coffey continued, “We look forward to working with our new members and all of membership to move forward key legislative and policy initiatives and demonstrate the importance and need for high-quality content in an information-driven world.”

Colossal Supports Kind Campaign | Empowering Girls, Changing Lives

“Aaron and Bryan are always looking for creative ways for Dos Hombres to assist those in need,” Dos Hombres VP of National Accounts Lyndsey Conrad said. “Since the Kind Campaign is an organization near and dear to their hearts and Colossal has been so successful in fundraising for other major brands and charities, it was only natural to combine forces.”

One of the key ways fundraising impacts Kind Campaign is that it has allowed the organization to share its in-school assemblies and curriculum with schools completely free of charge for the last ten years. This is unique to Kind Campaign, as most school programs have to charge for their services. Being able to provide free school programming gives Kind Campaign the opportunity to travel into Title 1 schools and communities that often get overlooked due to a lack of funding. It is common for Kind Campaign to hear that their school assembly program was the first assembly a school has ever had because of the fact that there is no fee attached.

“Colossal takes great pride in partnering with trustworthy charities that aim to make a difference in the lives of others. We love that the founders are so active in the daily, massive duties of keeping a charity afloat, including speaking engagements, tours, school coordination, press, social media, merch, and administrative duties,” said Colossal CEO Mary Hagen. “Lauren and Molly were recently able to travel to the Colossal headquarters to share more about Kind Campaign’s history and mission with our staff. They shared the story of how and why they started this organization during a time when bullying was not publicly addressed as the mental health crisis that we all know it to be today.”

In its 15 years, Kind Campaign has been able to spread the love and increase its reach in the following ways:

  • Paul and Thompson have personally held Kind Campaign Founders Assemblies and spoken in over 725 schools across North America and the UK through 24 Founders Tours. And, thanks to their virtual assembly platform and comprehensive faculty-led assembly guide, assemblies have taken place in New Zealand, Mexico, Denmark, South Africa, Jamaica, Australia, Ireland, Singapore, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan, South Korea, Turkey, and Cambodia.
  • Kind Campaign Assemblies have been held for over 525,000 students across the world.
  • Over 3,000 Kind Campaign Assemblies have taken place in schools and communities since September 2010.
  • On average, about 150 Kind Campaign Assemblies take place each school year, all of which are free of charge.
  • Over 400 Kind Ambassadors volunteer to spread Kind Campaign Assemblies and Kind Clubs into their local communities.
  • Kind Clubs have been implemented in over 700 schools.

Paul and Thompson shared their thoughts on the organization’s future: “Thinking about Kind Campaign long-term, we would love to see our programming in every school across the country.”

Visit kindcampaign.com to dive deeper into details about their history, mission, school programming, and impact, witness personal testimonies from students and visuals from Kind Campaign Assemblies, and follow the work they do on social @kindcampaign.
