The Minnesota Wild Will Once Again Honor Minnesota’s First Responders and The Front Line Foundation at Dec. 14 Game

“It is an honor to be asked to be a part of this game and the meaning behind it,” said Suzanne Holt, President and CEO of TFLF. “Each time we have participated in this event, we leave feeling both uplifted and hopeful for our men and women on the front lines.”

The Wild’s Hometown Heroes Front Line Workers Ticket Pack includes an exclusive, Wild-branded Hometown Heroes t-shirt, a pregame on-ice photo, and a pregame gathering. A portion of each ticket pack purchased will go to benefit the Front Line Foundation.

Before the puck drops, Sgt Joel Legut who serves in SWAT Security Operations for Washington County will make the famous “Let’s Play Hockey” call.

“This is an honor for me,” said Legut. “I am extremely thankful for the support of The Front Line Foundation. They are going a great job of supporting the 60,000 first responders in this state.”

Recently, TFLF donated funds totaling $14,399 to purchase nine new ballistics helmets for the Washington County SWAT Team. “We are very happy to help the first responders of Washington County,” said Holt. “We have learned that when our men and women protecting us are safer, we too are safer.”

Since its inception in late 2018, The Front Line Foundation has supported Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, EMTs and members of the National Guard across Minnesota, to grant financial support to families of first responders who have died in the line of duty. The Foundation’s mission is to bridge the gap between the death and benefits being paid, which can help families with ongoing expenses. The Foundation also provides support in the purchase of tactical equipment for first responders which is not included in department budgets.

To date The Frontline Foundation has paid out $448,000 in death benefits and equipment funding since it was founded in 2018.

“We are only able to offer support because of the generosity of those who support us financially throughout the year and at our annual Golf Tournament each September,” said Holt. “The need for financial assistance among our first responders has never been greater. An event like the Hometown Heroes Game gives us a chance to tell our story and hopefully find further support.”

Attention Radio /TV & Podcast Producers: Any of the newsmakers named in this release are available to be scheduled for interviews live on early morning or midday news programs. To help make coordinating easy and hassle free, contact publicist Robb Leer at 612.701.0608.

About The Front Line Foundation:The Front Line Foundation began as an attempt to help and support our Fallen Heroes, including Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, EMTs, and the Minnesota National Guard. The Frontline Foundation provides support to those who died while in the line of duty, by giving benefit payments to dependents of fallen first responders. Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, and EMT First Responders face armed and dangerous criminals, impaired individuals wielding weapons, even emotionally charged, and threatening domestic disputes. They are The Front Line Defenders of our neighborhoods, towns, and cities who face and diffuse the high-risk, frequently appalling situations we know or hear about, with disbelief, on the news. In addition to providing endowments and support for the families of fallen heroes, The Front Line Foundation will underwrite scholarships and training registration costs for Front Line personnel as well as support preparedness training for safety officers in hospitals, schools, and places of worship. Further, we assist with the purchase of needed safety and tactical equipment not currently within the budget of the local unit of government.  For more information, please visit http://www.thefrontlinemn.org

AWWA Statement on Proposed Lead and Copper Rule Improvements

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) is committed to protecting public health today while we work toward a future when all lead service lines are removed from our communities. We look forward to reviewing EPA’s proposed Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) and helping the agency move toward an effective and protective final rule.

AWWA strongly supports EPA’s goal of removing all lead service lines as quickly as feasible from our communities, on both public and private property. We are proud to lift up the examples of many members that have worked swiftly and effectively to address lead line replacement in their communities. We also agree that lead service line inventories should be continually updated so consumers understand where lead risks reside and can make informed decisions to protect their households.

It’s important to recognize that while some communities can move quickly to replace all lead service lines, others need longer time frames. We are pleased that EPA recognizes that a one-size-fits-all approach will not work and is proposing a formula to help systems with large numbers of lead lines in their service areas comply with the rule.

Some communities and their local partners will have to overcome barriers in order to accelerate lead service line replacement and meet EPA’s proposed timeline. For example, not every property owner is amenable to replacing a service line, even when the water system bears partial or full cost. In many states, water systems do not have legal authority to access private property without the owner’s permission and lack clear authority to spend public ratepayer funds to remove lines on private property. In other places, water systems will face logistical challenges as they coordinate lead service line replacement with street improvement projects or incorporate it into large capital projects. Lining up trained contractors in a tight labor market and acquiring necessary materials introduces additional complications. We hope EPA will work closely with state primacy agencies, AWWA, local governments, and water utilities to find workable pathways to overcome these barriers.

Cost will also be a significant challenge in replacing all lead service lines, especially when considered alongside competing priorities such as PFAS removal, cybersecurity upgrades, and other critical infrastructure investments. The average cost to fully replace a single lead service line is more than $10,000, and EPA estimates there are 9.2 million lead lines connecting homes to water systems nationwide. The total cost could easily exceed $90 billion. Even with the unprecedented $15 billion injection for lead service line replacement from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, water bills will rise to pay for this initiative. Recognizing that many households already struggle to pay their water bills, we look forward to working with EPA and other partners to lessen the cost burden in disadvantaged communities.

Communities nationwide are already working on many fronts to reduce the risk of lead getting into drinking water. They are developing and sharing lead service line inventories, expanding testing in schools and child-care facilities, and communicating actively with consumers about lead. The daily progress builds on more than three decades of corrosion control measures and other risk reduction practices that have reduced lead exposure nationwide. We look forward to working together with EPA, states, and water systems across the country to refine and implement the Lead and Copper Rule for the good of present and future generations.

Established in 1881, the American Water Works Association is the largest nonprofit, scientific and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water, the world’s most vital resource. With approximately 50,000 members, AWWA provides solutions to improve public health, protect the environment, strengthen the economy and enhance our quality of life.

SAFE CU Employees Donate 1,000 Hours During Volunteer Drive

“SAFE employees made one amazing impact on Greater Sacramento communities this year,” says SAFE Credit Union Community Impact Specialist Brit Kelleher.

Surpassing last year’s 26 Building CommYOUnity Month projects, nearly 200 SAFE employees, including teams from three of the credit union’s employee resource groups, engaged in volunteering on a record 44 projects this year. Teams also volunteered at 26 area nonprofits.

SAFE employees raised $1,235 to buy MP3 players, to help with emotional support, and other supplies for the Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento. Employees – many from SAFE’s Contact Center – collected and donated 111 pounds of food for the River City Food Bank.

This year volunteers helped on a variety of projects ranging from creating holiday kits for young cancer patients to distributing food at area food banks, as well as helping Blue Star Moms assemble care packages for service men and women and painting transitional housing units and facilities.

“I think that we all have a responsibility to one another to help out within our communities,” says SAFE Digital Systems Analyst Kristen Wilson, who volunteered at Soil Born Farms.

Volunteers also donated their time at the Elk Grove Food Bank, Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, The Gathering Inn, Girls Love Mail, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento Restore, Rancho Cordova Food Locker, Roseville-based Keaton’s Childcare Alliance, Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, Saint John’s Program for Real Change, Single Mom Strong, Volunteers of America California and Nevada, Wellspring Women’s Center and the Yolo County Children’s Alliance.

Volunteerism is a part of the award-winning culture at SAFE – the Sacramento Business Journal this year named SAFE as the Best Place to Work, Very Large Employer.

SAFE employees each receive 16 hours of paid time off every year to volunteer on their own or with their co-workers as a team building exercise.
