Bottari & Doyle, P.A. Law Firm Names Rescue Racing Greyhound Cleo Office Mascot

Add Covid, and the stress is amplified. Dogs help to alleviate this stress by providing a sense of comfort to humans.

Bottari & Doyle, P.A. officially names Cleo the Rescue Racing Greyhound its office mascot. After racing at the Palm Beach Kennel Club in West Palm Beach, Florida for 2 years, Cleo was adopted by Daniel Bottari, the law firm’s owner. Cleo raced about 60 races and was eager to start her new life as a couch potato at home. Greyhounds, although able to reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour, are remarkably lazy and prefer to sleep rather than run. Cleo’s quiet demeanor and lazy disposition made Daniel realize that Cleo would be a great addition to the office.

Daniel said, “Legal work can be incredibly stressful, because lawyers and office staff often deal with clients who are in difficult situations. Add Covid, and the stress is amplified. Dogs help to alleviate this stress by providing a sense of comfort to humans. Dogs seem to have a way of taking the stress away from us and knowing our moods. Since bringing her to the office, I have seen an increase in work productivity and a better attitude from myself and office staff. Oh yeah, and the clients love her.”

Daniel brings Cleo to the office just about every day and encourages other attorneys and professionals to bring dogs to work. The law firm has even placed a video of a greyhound running down the beach with the title, “Striving. To Win Quickly and Deliver the Compensation our Client’s Deserve” on its homepage.

QuantaVerse’s AI-Powered Anti-Money Laundering Solutions Secure Highest Possible Ratings from Independent Model Validation Firm

News Image

“We encourage banks and financial services companies to review our validation results as part of their regulatory & due diligence requirements,” said David McLaughlin, CEO & Founder of QuantaVerse. “The results are proof positive that the QuantaVerse platform delivers on the promise of AI for AML.”

QuantaVerse, which uses AI and machine learning to automate financial crime investigation processes, engaged an independent model validation firm to ensure the regulatory rigor of its AI and machine learning platform. Leveraging its proprietary modeling framework to thoroughly analyze QuantaVerse’s AI solutions, the firm delivered a comprehensive model validation.

Each solution, including the QuantaVerse Alert Investigator and QuantaVerse False Negative Identification and Investigator, were given the highest possible marks, proving that its AI models are effective and work as intended. QuantaVerse, having been in production in client environments for several years, can now lay claim to being the industry’s only independently validated comprehensive technology platform to deliver AI for AML.

“Models are used throughout the banking and financial services space, particularly for determining risk. As such, bank regulators issue guidance advising periodic model validation,” explained David McLaughlin, CEO and Founder of QuantaVerse. “We encourage banks and financial services companies to review our validation results as part of their regulatory and due diligence requirements. Our validation results are proof positive that the QuantaVerse platform delivers on the promise of AI and machine learning for AML/BSA compliance efforts.”

When presented with input data such as negative/adverse media or transaction data, QuantaVerse’s models produce a value, or observable, which is used to determine the presence or prevalence of financial crime. The models vary widely depending on the nature of the observable they are trying to infer, from natural language processing techniques to neural networks to specialized graphing techniques.

Critical to characterizing the risk associated with an entity or transacting party, the validation focused on model-driven observables relating to profile, monitoring, reputation, and intent. The model validation firm developed generic data sets to exhibit specific characteristics and behaviors that were then ingested and processed through the QuantaVerse platform and, specifically, its AML and screening solutions. The output from the AI solutions was then sampled and reconciled with the input data. All QuantaVerse governance and processes were examined with the highest possible marks.

The validation firm utilized the following methodology to complete its analysis:

  • Developed detailed transaction and entity test data as input to exercise the model
  • Processed multiple iterations of simulated transaction and entity data
  • Analyzed outputs of the system to validate the results against expected values
  • Logged findings and observations on each observable

Powerful Testimony About Pam Hupp Murder Case Leads to $3 Million Wrongful Death Judgment

Burger Law obtained a $3 Million Judgment against Pamela Hupp on Friday July 17, 2020, for the family of Louis Gumpenberger

Burger Law obtained a $3 Million Judgment against Pamela Hupp on Friday July 17, 2020, for the family of Louis Gumpenberger

“In a word – powerful. I mean she spoke from the heart. She’s lived this, the love for her lost son, what she’s done through the circus that Pam Hupp has put her through.”

Burger Law obtained a $3 Million judgment against Pamela Hupp on Friday July 17, 2020, for the family of Louis Gumpenberger in case 1911-CC00952, Burch v Hupp, of the St Charles Circuit Division. Hupp shot and killed Gumpenberger on August 16, 2016. Judge Michael James Fagras ordered defendant Pam Hupp to pay damages to Margaret Burch for the wrongful death of Gumpenberger, Burch’s son.

Defendant Hupp shot and killed Louis Gumpenberger in her home, as stated in the First Amended Petition submitted on June 2, 2020 by Gary Burger:

Shortly before the shooting, Hupp called 911 and claimed that Gumpenberger, armed with a knife, jumped out of a vehicle and attacked her and demanded that she drive him and another person to a bank to retrieve Russ Faria’s money. Hupp claimed that this event led her to flee into her house and then shoot Gumpenberger in self-defense. To corroborate her story, Hupp planted a knife and a note on Gumpenberger’s body. The note contained instructions to “kidnap Hupp, get Russ’s money from Hupp at her bank, and kill Hupp” and to “Take Hupp back to house and get rid of her. Make it look like Russ’ wife. Make sure knife sticking out of neck.” in return for a reward of $10,000. She put $900 in Gumpenberger’s pocket.

On June 19, 2019, Hupp entered an Alford plea to the criminal charges and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Hupp is currently incarcerated with the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Attorney Gary Burger represented plaintiff Margaret Burch, the mother of Louis Gumpenberger. Margaret Busch is also the guardian of Louis Gumpenberger’s minor child, Tevelan Gumpenberger. The hearing took place in person in the St. Charles County courthouse, one of the first to do so since the coronavirus pandemic shut down many courthouses and postponed proceedings across the country. Hupp declined to appear at the hearing.

Burger attributes the win to the moving testimony Burch gave that day in court. As Burger describes it, it was “In a word – powerful. I mean she spoke from the heart. She’s lived this, the love for her lost son, what she’s done through the circus that Pam Hupp has put her through.”

Burger Law is proud to represent clients like Burch and to uphold justice in the community. Mr. Burger may be contacted at 314-799-4848 or gary@burgerlaw.com. FreeGIproject.org is demanding justice in a Federal investigation for another George

George Johnson & Actor/Activist Danny Glover

“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.” Martin Luther King

FreeGIproject.org is demanding justice in the investigation for another George. George Johnson appeals the Los Angeles Court denial mandate, case number P8039081.

I shall be set free, is the declared oath that independent film, television, and record producer Mr. G.I. Johnson of Geesawn Irie productions of Cincinnati, Ohio remains focused on as he appeals for his freedom while serving a sentence of a thirty-three year imprisonment at California State prison in Chino,California.

The appeal alleges Mr. Johnson, while working on a production in L.A. on June 29th, 2001,

was racially profiled and falsely arrested for DUI. Within the course of the arrest by California Highway Patrol officers Richard Cheever and Ephraim Moore, the appeal alleges Johnson had willingly submitted to all the officers’ commands before he became a victim of brutality, which resulted in Johnson being wounded by gunfire delivered by Officer Cheever.

Johnson appeals the Los Angeles Court denial mandate, case number P8039081 of the April 7th, 2020 filed writ of mandate, which exhibits 90 pages of supporting documents with copies of complaints, letters, and the responses, of L.A.P.D. chief Bratton, L.A Mayor Hahn, and commander Lillo, all in-office or positioning in 2005.

Struggling to stay coronavirus free in prison, Mr. Johnson maintains he is an innocent man fighting a potential death sentence. As his family and friends seek justice and a federal investigation into the alleged conspiracy to cover up his accused of crimes. Mr. Johnson contends that he is blessed to be alive and knows totally that with patience, faith, and a good measure of true justice, he unquestionably will be set free without delay.

SB 1421, Senate Bill 1421, or Peace Officers: Release of Records, is a California state law that makes police records relating to officer use-of-force incidents, sexual assault, and acts of dishonesty accessible under the California Public Records Act, this was introduced by senator Nancy Skinner. SB 1421 was passed in 2018 and went into effect on January 1, 2019.

As of 2020, Johnson has requested the L.A.P.D. internal affairs investigation and the reports that were conducted in 2005 of complaints filed by Johnson.

Quartic.ai Announces Partnership with Sparta Systems to Connect Real-Time Manufacturing Insights to QMS

Quartic.ai and Sparta Systems Logos

“For the first time in the life sciences industry, we are able to directly and systematically harness processing equipment’s ‘eyes and ears’, its integrated sensors, and deploy AI/ML agents that continuously verify process performance and pre-empt deviations,” said Rajiv Anand, CEO of Quartic.ai.

Quartic.ai, provider of the award-winning Quartic AI and IoT Platform™ for Smart Industry, announced a partnership with Sparta Systems, Inc., provider of industry-leading Quality Management System (QMS) platforms TrackWise® and TrackWise Digital®, to bring forward next-level AI capabilities for early risk detection during the manufacturing process to reduce product quality impact and enable near-real-time product release.

The assurance of quality output during drug and medical device manufacturing is a critical lynchpin in assuring the safety and efficacy of those products in market. Since quality cannot be “controlled into” a process, sole reliance on post-development/post-production identification of defective or unacceptable product is not an effective means of quality assurance and places supply chain continuity at risk of disruption. Furthermore, this model requires development and production of a product before the quality of that product can be measured; the result being consecutive, rather than concurrent, manufacturing and quality assurance. And finally, the growth in both batch scale and increase in continuous manufacturing processes inhibits the establishment and maintenance of demonstrative sampling plans that adequately represent the production process.

With Quartic’s award-winning Quartic AI and IoT Platform™ for Smart Industry, the Sparta TrackWise, and Trackwise Digital will acquire production equipment data during development to create and train algorithms that detect product and process anomalies. Once the product development is completed and the product is approved for commercial distribution, users are able to deploy trained algorithms on commercial-scale equipment data streams to identify performance “drift” before nonconforming product is manufactured. If performance drift is identified, the joint capability of the two platforms contemporaneously creates records in TrackWise Digital associated with the available data and connects operators with development insights and just-in-time process correction instructions to secure the production run. Since decision makers using TrackWise Digital connect with raw data both identifying and correcting apparent manufacturing issues, the potential for under-informed decisions is further reduced.

“Innovation in quality management is at the core of Sparta Systems,” said Dana Jones, CEO of Sparta Systems. “With this new combined capability, we’re putting meaningful quality insights and intelligence in the hands of our customers. The ability to not only capture but distribute the information to all levels and across all operating units empowers our customers to make faster and better decisions while assuring the quality of medical products and safety of patients and users.”

“For the first time in the life sciences industry, we are able to directly and systematically harness processing equipment’s ‘eyes and ears’, its integrated sensors, and deploy AI/ML agents that continuously verify process performance and pre-empt deviations. The ultimate goal is to be certain that all critical parameters are met, that we capture process and human knowledge, and that we are certain product coming off the line is not just okay, but perfect – the absolute highest quality,” explained Rajiv Anand, CEO of Quartic.ai.

STRmix Is Generally Accepted, Scientifically Valid, Arizona Court Rules

Arizona Superior Court for Pima County has denied the defendant’s motion to preclude DNA evidence in the trial for the murder of Robert Belman.

Defense counsel in Arizona v. Martinez (Case No. CR-20181689-001) had challenged the relevancy, admissibility, and reliability of DNA results obtained by the State largely through the use of STRmix™ – sophisticated probabilistic genotyping software used to resolve mixed DNA profiles previously thought to be too complex to interpret.

The court, however, concluded, “…the use of probabilistic genotyping, and specifically the software utilized in this case – STRmix™ – has been generally accepted in the relevant scientific community of forensic DNA.”

The court’s ruling continued, “… even the defense’s motion concedes that most state and federal courts have found that STRmix™ is scientifically valid because of it having been subjected to several peer reviewed studies that produces favorable results.”

John Buckleton, DSc, FRSNZ, one of the developers of STRmix™, notes that forensic labs worldwide increasingly are using STRmix™ “because it greatly improves the usability of DNA to produce evidence in a wide range of criminal cases.”

Buckleton notes that organizations using STRmix™ are reporting a significantly higher rate of interpretable results in sexual assault cases, as well as “an increase of interpretable DNA in gun cases from about 40% to more than 70%.”

Since its introduction in 2012, STRmix™ has been used successfully in numerous U.S. court cases, including 37 successful admissibility hearings. Currently, 56 U.S. forensic labs, including multiple state and local organizations and such federal agencies as the FBI and ATF, use STRmix™ to interpret DNA profiles. The software is also in various stages of installation, validation, and training in more than 60 other U.S. organizations.

Internationally, STRmix™ has also gained widespread acceptance. All nine state and territory forensic labs in Australia and New Zealand, as well as 14 labs in other countries including England, Scotland, Ireland, Finland, Denmark, and Canada, now use STRmix™. To date, it has been used to interpret DNA evidence in more than 120,000 cases worldwide.

A new version of STRmix™, STRmix™ v2.7, was introduced in late 2019. STRmix™ v2.7 includes several new features in response to improvements recommended by forensic labs to better address the on-the-job needs they regularly encounter.

The team that created STRmix™ recently launched two other products. DBLR™, an application used with STRmix™, allows users to undertake superfast database searches, visualize the value of their DNA mixture evidence, and carry out mixture to mixture matches. FaSTR™ DNA, meanwhile, is expert forensic software that rapidly analyzes DNA profiles and assigns a Number of Contributors (NoC) estimate.

Designed by scientists for scientists, FaSTR™ DNA combines an intuitive, user-friendly graphical interface with easily understandable and laboratory-customizable rules to expedite the analysis of raw data generated by genetic analyzers and standard profiling kits. FaSTR™ DNA also implements the use of artificial neural networks for peak classification independent of and in parallel to the forensic analyst.

Alongside STRmix™, FaSTR™ DNA and DBLR™ complete the full workflow from analysis to interpretation and database matching.

QuantaVerse Offers AI-Powered Country Code Derivation to Enable Financial Institutions to Experience the Potential of Automated Entity Resolution

News Image

“With this new offering, we’re providing financial institutions with the opportunity to see how AI can dramatically reduce their jurisdiction risk while increasing investigation efficiency,” said David McLaughlin, CEO and Founder of QuantaVerse.

QuantaVerse, which uses AI and machine learning to automate financial crime investigation processes, is now offering the country code derivation capability of its QuantaVerse Pre-TMS Entity Resolution & Risk Scoring solution for trial. The AI-powered, cloud-based function helps financial institutions struggling to identify potentially risky jurisdictions, or country codes, of transacting parties. With this offering, financial institutions can easily trial AI-enabled automation against a particularly intractable part of the entity resolution process.

Most financial institutions report that jurisdiction/country code information is typically missing or malformed in SWIFT messages and international ACH payment transactions. Determining the jurisdiction of a transaction is challenging for financial institutions because each country’s addressing system has its own set of unique conventions, making it difficult to map to geography fields. When jurisdiction fields in a SWIFT message are blank or contain misspellings, a human analyst is brought in to scour Google and other resources in an attempt to identify the location of the transacting parties based on the address information that is available.

If no jurisdiction or country code is discernible or there is no human resource available to do this work in a given amount of time, the transaction goes into a bank’s TMS with the jurisdiction/country code field blank. Transactions missing these vital details automatically default to the highest risk jurisdiction resulting in TMS alerts, triggering time-consuming and costly AML alert investigations on transactions that are often legitimate. According to industry estimates, approximately 95 percent of all TMS alerts are false positives.

By letting banks try the country code derivation component of the QuantaVerse Pre-TMS Entity Resolution & Risk Scoring solution, they can quickly and easily experience AI at work in their AML/BSA operations. The need to automate these functions has been made more obvious by the recent pandemic which has led to emergency shortages of financial crime investigators at financial institutions.

QuantaVerse recently performed country code analysis for a large U.S.-based bank and found that 80% of its dedicated jurisdiction fields were blank. “Prior to working with QuantaVerse, we conducted country code derivation manually, representing thousands of transactions,” the Chief Compliance Officer explained. “Analysis and quality control usually take three full days to complete in the traditional manner and, due to time constraints, covers only 75% of the wires that are missing the country code. QuantaVerse’s multi-layered approach to country code analysis helped us derive correct country codes for nearly all entities, saving us an incredible amount of time while cutting false positives.”

Availability

This new adaptation of the QuantaVerse Pre-TMS Entity Resolution & Risk Scoring solution is available now. Financial institutions can take full advantage of the offering with limited effort and minimal cost.

“Financial institutions are recognizing that automating with AI is the best way to ferret financial crime out of our banking systems,” said David McLaughlin, CEO and Founder of QuantaVerse. “We want to make it as easy as possible to let them wade in and try AI out to address their entity resolution challenges. With this new offering, we’re providing financial institutions with the opportunity to see how AI can dramatically reduce their jurisdiction risk while increasing investigation efficiency.”

Kansas Sheriff’s Office Now Using STRmix

STRmix™, sophisticated forensic software used to resolve mixed DNA profiles previously thought to be too complex to interpret, is now being used by the Johnson County (Kansas) Sheriff’s Office Criminalistics Laboratory.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Criminalistics Laboratory aids in criminal investigations through timely, unbiased, high-quality forensic services performed by highly trained experts using state-of the art instrumentation and scientific techniques.

Fifty-six forensic labs nationally are now using STRmix™ to interpret DNA profiles in criminal investigations. That list includes federal agencies such as the FBI and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), as well as numerous state and local organizations.

Four other labs – the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratories, the Jefferson Parish (LA) Sheriff’s Office Regional DNA Laboratory, the Contra Costa County (CA) Office of the Sheriff, and New York’s Suffolk County Crime Laboratory – began using STRmix™ earlier this year.

STRmix™ is also in various stages of installation, validation, and training in more than 60 other U.S. organizations.

Since its introduction eight years ago, STRmix™ has been used to interpret DNA evidence in more than 120,000 cases worldwide. It has also been used successfully in numerous U.S. court cases, including at least 37 successful admissibility hearings.

“STRmix™ has produced a significant increase in usable, interpretable, and admissible DNA results in a wide range of criminal cases,” says John Buckleton DSc, FRSNZ, Forensic Scientist at the New Zealand Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) and one of the developers of STRmix™.

According to Buckleton, those results include “evidence from guns, other touch evidence, and sexual assault evidence. STRmix™ has also proved to be effective in helping to solve cold cases in which evidence originally dismissed as inconclusive has been reprocessed.

The latest version of STRmix™, STRmix™ v2.7, was introduced in late 2019. STRmix™ v2.7 includes several new features in response to improvements recommended by forensic labs to better address the on-the-job needs they regularly encounter.

In addition, DBLR™, an application used with STRmix™, was introduced last year. DBLR™ allows users to undertake superfast database searches, visualize the value of their DNA mixture evidence, and carry out mixture to mixture matches.
