Closet Factory Launches Nationwide Initiative to Help Underserved Children through Non-profit Closet Factory Cares

Among those children Closet Factory Cares will serve are those in the foster care system. More than 376,000 children in the U.S. were in the foster care system, according to the most recent numbers available from KIDS COUNT Data Center, an initiative of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. With many of these children needing to live outside the home, and foster homes in short supply, children are often shuffled between places to live. Moves happen often and many times, with little warning – and all the children are given to carry their belongings is a plastic trash bag.

“We knew we had to do something,” LaBarbera said. “Our franchise owners came together and said they wanted to change this. So now, Bags for Kids is a signature program of Closet Factory Cares, a program we intend to operate for years to come to improve the experience for children in the system. Let’s use the trash bags for trash, and give kids in need some respect and love.”

At participating Closet Factory locations across the country, each new project a client starts generates a bag to be donated to a child in need. When clients receive a storage system designed just for their home, a child in need will receive a new, high-quality duffel bag that also doubles as a backpack. These bags are collected and then donated to a non-profit that serves children in the area near that Closet Factory location, allowing Closet Factory Cares to lead large-scale giving on a local level.

“Closet Factory products are made locally, in the areas where our customers live, so the designers, manufacturers, installers and more are residents, too,” LaBarbera said. “We are your friends and neighbors and believe in building stronger communities together.”

ABOUT CLOSET FACTORY

Closet Factory is a national leader in custom-designed organizational solutions. On February 9, 1983, Closet Factory opened its first location in California to provide custom closets, offices, entertainment centers, garage systems, pantries, bookshelves, and more that are custom-designed to meet the specific needs of the client. The family-owned company is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, and has franchise locations throughout the U.S. In recognition of the company’s 40th anniversary in 2023, the company launched Closet Factory Cares to help children in need feel loved and valued.

Compass to Care Childhood Cancer Foundation received a $5,000 grant from the SBB Research Group Foundation, which awards monthly grants to support impactful organizations.

CHICAGO, Aug. 4, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Compass to Care Childhood Cancer Foundation received a $5,000 grant from the SBB Research Group Foundation, which awards monthly grants to support impactful organizations.

Compass to Care Childhood Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit organization that eliminates transportation barriers to healthcare for children living in poverty who are being treated for cancer.

The Foundation accomplishes this through three non-emergency medical transportation solutions (NEMT) that allow families free transportation services for all cancer-related medical treatments. These solutions reduce cancer survival discrepancies, giving all children hope for a cancer cure.

Founder and CEO Michelle May of Compass to Care shares, “The social determinants of health and living in poverty are the differentiating factor that determines whether or not children can have survival rates of what is potentially possible.”

The organization’s success is due to Compass to Care’s strong relationships with hospitals and medical centers that treat pediatric cancer. Open communication with social workers and medical professionals allows families to connect with Compass and have their transportation needs tailored to their treatment requirements.

“Compass to Care gives families hope that their child can receive proper care without worrying about travel,” said Matt Aven, co-founder and board member of the SBB Research Group Foundation.

The organization will use the SBB Research Group Foundation grant for the transportation needs of children in the community. This grant will empower families to make timely decisions about getting their children to cancer care, with the hope of long-term survival.

KUDO Gains a Patent for Systems and Methods for Automatic Speech Translation

KUDO receives a Patent for Systems and Methods for Automatic Speech Translation, in recognition of their unique speech-to-speech process.

NEW YORK, Aug. 8, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — In a defining mark of innovation, KUDO receives a Patent grant certification from the United States Patent Office (USPO) for its unique, real-time speech-to-speech technology approach. This was one of multiple Patents currently pending by the global leaders in multilingual communication solutions for businesses.

Reflecting significant efforts in R&D since their Series B investment round, KUDO gains a Patent in recognition of the innovative methodology behind KUDO AI, its AI-powered speech-to-speech translator. The Patent focuses on the company’s unique method for real-time, continuous (simultaneous) translation, and for translating spoken language in a natural way.

Launched in January 2023 and designed by a Product and Engineering team of both language and AI specialists, the ground-breaking Speech Translator integrates state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing systems – such as speech recognition and synthesis – with KUDO’s innovative language models. The result is high quality, live multilingual audio and captions. And as of today, the solution is available in thirty languages, on most videoconferencing platforms.

Usage from early adopters indicates that the most popular use case for KUDO AI so far remains internal meetings and webinars. Data around language shows that the most requested languages for participants to hear include Spanish, French, German, Hindi, and Japanese. KUDO anticipates that these will likely adapt as the solution continues to evolve in its sophistication.

“The awarding of this Patent reflects KUDO’s cutting-edge position in the language technology space. But we built KUDO AI with a bigger mission: to give everyone the power to understand and be understood in their own language,” says KUDO’s CEO, Fardad Zabetian. “As an entrepreneur whose first language is not English, this is of personal importance. Nobody should be hindered or defined by their level of proficiency in Business English; with KUDO AI, we aim to enable the transfer of knowledge fairly across all businesses, and eventually, all nations.”

“We’re thrilled with this milestone. It’s the first of many more announcements to come this month,” adds Dr Claudio Fantinuoli, KUDO’s CTO and the inventor of the Patented speech translation methodology. “Since its launch, KUDO AI has already undergone a new AI engine, seen a dramatic increase in translation quality, and we are constantly adding new languages in line with our rigorous quality and accuracy checks. Watch this space.”

For anyone looking to experience this technology in action, KUDO AI is available to test via a free trial from the website, or to experience via a personalized demo with a KUDO expert.

Ray Taken Alive was found to have violated the Code of Professional Ethics according to Professional Teachers Practices and Standards Commission.

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Today, we are compelled to address the misleading statements being propagated by Mr. Eugene Ray Taken Alive, Jr. regarding the recent case in which he was found to have violated the Code of Professional Ethics. As the attorney who represented the Complainants Lakota Language Consortium, Wilhelm Meya, Alex Fire Thunder, and Jan Ullrich in this matter, I will clarify the result of the case.

Contrary to the misrepresentations being disseminated by Mr. Taken Alive, Jr., the Professional Teachers Practices and Standards Commission (“PTPSC”) unequivocally found him to be in violation of the Code of Professional Ethics. Based on the facts presented, the PTPSC made the just determination that Mr. Taken Alive, Jr. had indeed breached the ethical standards that govern the education profession.

Council for Quality Growth Hosts 300+ at 3rd Annual INTERSECTION Conference

22 Experts Talk Innovative Partnerships & Housing Affordability in Metro Atlanta

ATLANTA, Aug. 11, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — On August 10, 2023, the Council for Quality Growth, through the Quality Growth Institute, hosted The 2023 INTERSECTION Quality Development Conference at the City Springs Studio Theatre. Mayor Rusty Paul opened the conference with a warm welcome to the City of Sandy Springs. Over 300 Council for Quality Growth members, elected officials, government staff, and development industry professionals gathered for the 3rd annual event. The 2023 theme “Collaborate & Compete” convened 22 expert speakers to share stories, unwrap critical issues, and discuss opportunities as they relate to collaboration between public and private entities and housing affordability in the metro Atlanta region. On the backend of an economically trying pandemic, a region with a dependence on commercial property taxes has great opportunity to lean into public-private partnerships that create housing inventory that is affordable and attainable for the talent of continued investment. The Council for Quality Growth is a convener of private investors and public policy makers, advocating for regulations that support smart growth in the region. “The INTERSECTION Conference is about bringing these groups together,” said Rob Ross, 2023 Council Chairman and Senior Vice President of Kimley-Horn, “and to get them talking about ways to collaborate towards higher quality development in metro Atlanta. The best way for us to learn is from each other.” This annual event serves as the Council’s platform to educate both sides of development with outside approaches, best practices, and lessons learned. Doug Hooker, CEO of the Atlanta Connector Park and former ARC Executive Director, guided these conversations as emcee of the full conference.

Jonathan Tower, Founder & Manager Partner of Arctaris Impact Investors delivered the opening keynote address on “Expanding Your Community’s Fiscal Health Toolkit.” Tower flew from Boston to highlight the need for office to residential conversion in metro Atlanta. According to Tower, Atlanta’s over-reliance on tax revenues from commercial properties could prove problematic with the expected decline in property values. “Atlanta’s problem might be bigger,” said Tower, “but so is it’s opportunity.” He outlined his toolkit of ways local governments can mitigate what is typically a costly conversion, including modernizing zoning, eliminating risk with feasibility studies, providing anchor tenants, and creating tax abatement and direct subsidy programs. Arctaris Impact Investors is the largest impact-focused manager of opportunity zones nationally.

Three public-private partnership case studies showcased the important role collaboration plays in our region’s economic development. Greg Voetsch with I-3 Partners shared his private equity model for funding municipal projects, most recently with the Clayton County School District. Brian Johnson, City Manager of Peachtree Corners and Tiana McNeil with T-Mobile shared the partnership they’ve leaned on to create the very unique Curiosity Lab, and Centennial Yards’ Brian McGowan and Invest Atlanta’s Dr. Eloisa Klementich shared all their progress in redeveloping The Gulch.

Tony Perez, Senior Associate at Opticos Design delivered the second keynote, “An Objective Approach to Housing.” His California-based firm consults with local governments on form-based zoning to create sustainable communities. Perez presented the spectrum of housing choices available, reporting a growing realization that the vast amount of land dedicated to single family housing could be better utilized. “You can add housing without changing much about the community,” Perez said, comparing the varying levels of density that can be allowed from small changes to a zoning ordinance. He provided a look into what other states, regions, and local governments elsewhere are doing to creativity provide housing products that fit into existing communities. These include implementing Objective Design Standards (ODS), making Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) “by-right” for property owners, and writing zoning codes that better allow for the implementation of missing middle housing.

Mike Carnathan, Manager of Research & Analytics at the Atlanta Regional Commission, provided a look at regional housing data and numbers, further highlighting the need for housing that is affordable. Matt Bedsole, Director of Atlanta’s Housing Innovation Lab, gave an overview of the Dickens Administration’s effort to deliver 20,000 affordable housing units in the next 8 years. Bedsole was joined by Sarah Kirsch, Managing Director of Housing Funds at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, and Dr. Eloisa Klementich, President & CEO of Invest Atlanta, to detail the recent announcement of $300 million in affordable housing funds and the importance of partnerships to continue to provide capital and deliver affordable housing.

Two affordable housing panels followed, the first of which discussed some of the challenges faced when funding affordable housing projects and the opportunities presented from finding the right partners and properties. Alan Ferguson, President & CEO of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity moderated this conversation between Sharon Guest, Owner and Manager of Radiant Development Partners, Ashani O’Mard, Senior Vice President of Strategic Housing Investments for the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, and Richard Taylor, Managing Partner at ARRC Capital Partners.

The final panel, moderated by Parker Poe’s Shaun Adams, explored built environments and reimaging spaces to include deliverable housing products. Marjy Stagmeier, Founder of TriStar Real Estate Investment, Lejla Prljaca, Executive Director of the Gwinnett Housing Corporation, Booker Washington, Founder and CEO of South Park Cottages in College Park, and Mayor Vince Williams of the City of Union City joined this conversation, each presenting their unique approach to housing projects, including microhomes, education-based housing developments, and reinvesting in extended stays. This panel showed how the right housing in the right place can have lasting impacts on communities, including reduced crime and transiency and increased home ownership and generational wealth.

In 2023, housing continues to be pushed to the forefront of development woes, and the Council is working daily to support our local governments making critical regulatory decisions to provide homes for their communities. With proactive leadership in local governments and willing investors, our region will continue to thrive.
