Teaching Channel Debuts a New Coaching and Professional Learning Platform, a One-Stop Shop for Educator Growth

“As lifelong learners, educators know that continued student growth depends upon supporting the professional growth of teachers,” said Don Rescigno, managing director of Teaching Channel. “We’re proud to offer a comprehensive platform dedicated to teachers’ growth—and the mentors, coaches, and leaders who support them—that is as robust as their commitment to student success.”

The new platform’s Resource Center offers the Teaching Channel Library of more than 1,600 exemplar videos, along with supporting materials to help educators observe and learn teaching strategies, instructional coaching techniques, and leadership lessons. Educators can create playlists, identify favorite videos, or access playlists curated by the Teaching Channel team. An institution can also use its own Account Library to collect and upload exemplar videos, links, lesson plans, and other resources.

The Teaching Channel Platform’s Activity Center is one central location where educators:

  • Create and organize all their coaching activities;
  • Upload videos for reflection, peer feedback, use in PLCs, and coaching; and
  • Reflect on and share videos from the Teaching Channel or account libraries with peers, observers, and school leaders for rich discussion.

“Educators are busy working to prepare students for an ever-changing future,” said Mike Smith, president of Teaching Channel. “Their time is too valuable to spend finding the right materials and tools to enable their own professional growth. That’s why we’ve created a platform to provide the resources they need to coordinate and pursue professional development throughout their school or district.”

The platform’s extensive array of tools also empowers educators to:

  • Create and meet with PLCs;
  • Conduct in-person observations;
  • Calibrate for observation through personalized video-based training and assessment experiences;
  • Embed notes or questions for future reference or to provide context for observers;
  • Add documents for future reference; and
  • Identify areas of focus so they can take charge of their professional development.

The Resource and Activity Centers are designed to work together to support a wide range of stakeholders. Recording and sharing PLC meetings allows district-level personnel to improve district alignment to ensure efficacy and alignment with goals. The Teaching Channel Platform also helps coaches and administrators develop their own capacity and leadership skills, and supports administrators in performing formal or informal observations by reviewing videos teachers have created and uploaded to the platform. Lead teachers are able to create sample video lessons for distribution through the resource center to inform the lessons other teachers will share through platform workflows.

A dashboard allows all of these users to easily see recent statistics, access updates and to-dos, view updates to the Teaching Channel video library, and receive notifications. Reports for both administrators and individual educators provide rich data on general usage, videos watched, educator growth, and calibration and educator growth over time.

“Our district has seen clear and measurable benefits from the use of video coaching and exemplar videos,” said Dr. Errick L. Green, the superintendent of Jackson (Mississippi) Public Schools, under whose leadership the district has improved two letter grades on the state’s accountability system. “It’s helping our teachers and instructional leaders to improve their practice, which is leading to improved student outcomes. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Teaching Channel.”

Additional features will be released throughout the 2023–2024 school year. More information and the opportunity to demo the Teaching Channel Platform are available at TeachingChannel.com.

Survey Finds 90% of ITDMs are Focused on Footprint Expansions, Addressing Performance and Latency Among Top Concerns

Findings Highlight the Key Drivers for Footprint Growth, and a Complex Landscape of Challenges Faced by ITDMs

The findings of the 2023 ITDM Global Network and Infrastructure Outlook Report reveal the complicated landscape for IT leaders in charge of network and infrastructure services. IT leaders are under pressure to keep costs under control and stay compliant with numerous regulations. At the same time, they must find ways to expand their deployments to ensure high performance and low latency for online product, application, and service delivery. As footprints grow, so do the numbers of vendors they must manage, which adds time and effort to not only IT, but also finance and procurement. Key findings include:

  • 90% of respondents plan on global growth in the next 12-24 months: As global markets continue to mature and workforces become more dispersed, it will drive more businesses to expand their presence. Despite current market instability, 90% of respondents were planning to grow their footprints in the next one to two years. US-based locations were the most popular expansion locations, followed by Canada, Mexico, South America, and Europe.
  • Improving application performance and availability for end users is driving footprint growth: When asked the key reasons they are deploying in multiple regions, nearly half of respondents cited application performance and availability for customers, while 44% added locations to reduce latency. Keeping applications available to remote workers was a driving factor for one in three respondents, and one out of four had increasing traffic that needed to be managed.
  • Nearly 60% of companies still have on-premises solutions as part of their footprint, and close to half have hardware in data centers: The survey results reflect an infrastructure landscape that is as hybrid as ever. As much as the public cloud has grown in popularity and usage over the last two decades, just 32% of respondents were deployed with a single cloud provider, while 29% deployed across multiple public clouds. Many more businesses still rely on their own hardware. Nearly 60% of respondents kept part of their infrastructure on premises, and 48% co-located their servers in a data center. A final 33% leverage self-managed private clouds. Importantly, our survey allowed for multiple responses, and respondents’ choices were reflective of most businesses leveraging a combination of public cloud, private cloud, and dedicated, owned hardware for various types of deployments and applications, whether internal or external facing.
  • 71% of respondents report that vendor management was consuming too much time and resources, and impacting their work: Over half of respondents in the survey are managing more than six providers for network and infrastructure services alone. Nearly 1 in 10 were dealing with more than 20 providers. As businesses look to expand their presence, especially into global markets, the number of vendors needed to reach every market with every service can add up very quickly.

“Our survey highlights the competing priorities IT leaders must balance to keep online applications, products, and services fast, available, and reliable,” said Sandy Bhargavi, CFO of NetActuate. “The work of IT teams in charge of network and infrastructure services has become critical to operations and profitability than ever before. Slow performance can impact bottom lines every minute there is an issue. However, full-service global providers like NetActuate that offer end-to-end global solutions can help these teams successfully optimize and grow their footprints by seeking out innovative and affordable solutions. “

And The Industry Is Taking Note

This not only means financial growth for the organization but has led to transformative, life-changing opportunities for thousands of individuals, further strengthening communities across the nation.

In its short time since launch, GoodwillFinds has expanded its operations from an initial four regional Goodwills to now include 10 metropolitan territories, and growing. It currently boasts a staggering 250,000 items, aiming to list 1 million by year-end. The platform plays a pivotal role in sustainable shopping, aiding in the diversion of over 4 billion pounds of used goods from landfills annually by the Goodwill network.

As the American economy grapples with challenges such as rising unemployment and inflation, GoodwillFinds offers consumers both exceptional value and the opportunity to contribute positively to their communities. Every purchase made has a ripple effect, providing job training, resume assistance, financial education, and other critical services to those in need in the community where the item was donated.

Douglas Hampton-Dowson, Executive Director of The Convrt Award, reaffirmed the need for such a platform, “These teams are constantly bringing new experiences to life for brands and customers worldwide, and we’re so excited to appreciate their work finally.”

Mr. Kaness added “we are thankful for the award and I’m especially grateful for our team to be recognized for their incredible contribution to this venture and the Goodwill mission.”

ABS, Crowley Advance Augmented Reality Technology for Maritime

ABS and Crowley will collaborate in a joint pilot project for classification-related survey support activities, such as aspects of annual and special surveys including task crediting. In addition, the project will include a variety of activities involving surveyors, engineers and back-office survey support, virtual walkthroughs and livestreaming using fully remote and hybrid survey techniques. Successful class surveys are important to operate vessels.

“Augmented reality technology is a field technology, so in collaborating with forward-looking companies like Crowley, we can explore what’s possible for future survey operations as well as for safety in use. ABS class services are leading the industry and finding ways to enrich the data used to both streamline the class process and also keep mariners and our surveyors safe,” said Patrick Ryan, ABS senior vice president and chief technology officer.

Crowley owns and operates a diverse U.S. and foreign flag fleet that includes, container, roll on/roll off (RoRo), tug, dry cargo and offshore wind development and service operation vessels. The collaboration with ABS will leverage its ongoing innovation efforts to bring more efficient and sustainable operations through technology. Kognitiv Spark and Crowley presented its AR operating system technology at Crowley’s inaugural Innovation Expo this year as an example of this effort.

“Partnership is key to sustainable growth and success in maritime services, and we look forward to working with ABS to advance innovation technology for the benefit of our maritime ecosystem and our customers,” said Cole Cosgrove, vice president, Crowley Shipping. “These innovations will provide mariners a safer and more efficient option and allow us to provide services for our customers that are even more reliable and effective.”

ABS is leading the way forward in applying technologies such as high-resolution laser scanning, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), crawlers, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and wearable technologies to augment traditional class-related surveys and inspections.
