Green Mountain Semiconductor Inc. Awarded Phase I SBIR to Pave the Way for Space-Ready Neural Processors

Green Mountain Semiconductor is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative, A Radiation Hard Neural Processor With Embedded MRAM aimed at tackling the critical challenge of radiation resilience in electronic components intended for space missions.

BURLINGTON, Vt., Oct. 6, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Green Mountain Semiconductor Inc. (GMS), a custom circuit design provider, is proud to announce its recent achievement of a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract. This significant milestone underscores GMS’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology in support of space applications. The contract was granted under NASA’s subtopic “Deep Neural Net and Neuromorphic Processors for In-Space Autonomy and Cognition.”

Under the Phase I SBIR, GMS is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative, “A Radiation Hard Neural Processor With Embedded MRAM,” aimed at tackling the critical challenge of radiation resilience in electronic components intended for space missions. GMS’s approach involves the development of an analysis tool to optimize circuit designs for reliability and radiation resistance. This advancement will enable the use of off-the-shelf technology in space applications without the need for excessive design modifications to ensure radiation resistance.

As a pivotal initial step, GMS will concentrate on enhancing its in-house designed memory neural processor, specially tailored for cube-sat format satellite payloads. By harnessing GMS’s extensive expertise in emerging memory technologies and incorporating radiation resistance into the design process, this endeavor promises to revolutionize the accessibility and dependability of neural processors for space missions.

“Through this project, GMS aims to empower companies seeking radiation-hardened solutions by creating a predictive tool for assessing radiation exposure on custom silicon designs,” stated Ryan Jurasek, VP Research & Development at GMS. “Our inaugural application of this tool will focus on optimizing our in-memory neural processor, designed using SOI process with MRAM integration, and intended for testing in a cube-satellite. GMS’s experience will shape the design and optimization of future products, both in space and beyond.”

In an era where the economics of space technology are evolving, GMS recognizes the increasing demand for advanced silicon in space missions. However, the space environment presents inherent challenges, including exposure to cosmic rays, solar flares, and other ionizing radiation sources, which can disrupt electronics and degrade silicon. Radiation testing of commercial products is often costly and raises questions about circuitry utilization and failure statistics. Moreover, off-the-shelf components are not inherently optimized for space applications in terms of size, weight, and power considerations.

GMS is poised to address these challenges by leveraging its in-depth knowledge of emerging memory technologies and developing radiation-resistant solutions by design. This strategic approach positions GMS to meet the growing demand for in-memory neuromorphic design.

GMS’s commitment to innovation, reliability, and technological advancement continues to drive its goal to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of space exploration. The Phase I SBIR award underscores GMS’s dedication to meeting the evolving needs of the aerospace industry and fostering a new era of space-ready neural processors.

Pioneering Adult-Serving University Offers Google Certificates

National University to offer Google Career Certificates to help students, alumni and employees boost digital skills

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 6, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — National University — a nonprofit Minority Serving Institution that serves more than 43,000 students annually through its degree programs and another 130,000 through its workforce and professional training programs — today announced an initiative that will integrate a suite of industry-recognized Google Career Certificates across its undergraduate and graduate programs. The collaboration with Google will enable current students, employees and alumni to learn job-ready skills across six in-demand fields: Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Project Management, Digital Marketing and E-Commerce, IT Support, and UX Design.

“Digital skills are increasingly the currency of career advancement. In today’s tech-driven economy, these skills matter in an ever-growing number of careers, not just in the tech industry itself,” said Dr. Susan Zukowski, vice president of professional and continuing education at National University. “The addition of these new certificates across multiple pathways and degree programs is reflective of our commitment to meeting students where they are—and creating a credential-rich pathway for every learner.”

The announcement comes as the job outlook for careers in digital and tech fields remains strong. Job openings for information security analysts, data scientists, and web developers and digital designers are projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The credentialing initiative marks the first example of a university integrating Google Career Certificates at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Certificate instruction will be offered across a diverse range of non-academic and academic programs through a combination of standalone offerings, elective classes, and courses with the skills training directly embedded into the curriculum.

In addition, students who have already completed a Google Career Certificate will be able to earn in some cases up to five courses toward a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including information technology, engineering, business, human resources, and marketing. The innovative approach to academic credit will dramatically reduce the cost-per-students and time to degree, saving students up to six months of seat-time and between $1,300 and $6,900 in tuition costs.

Students can complete each credential in six months or less. Courses will be taught in a fully asynchronous format that leverages curriculum built by industry experts, including engineers, technologists and learning and development experts.

“Emerging technologies continue to change our jobs and the way we do them. Putting tech and digital skills within reach of our students will help them not only get their next job, but ultimately navigate the challenges of an increasingly dynamic labor market for many years to come,” said Dr. Mark D. Milliron, president and CEO of National University. “We’re finding strategic ways to embed and integrate industry-recognized credentials throughout our degree pathways because it can unlock time, resources and career opportunities for the students that we serve.”

The offering of Google Career Certificates is an extension of National University’s longstanding commitment to educating working adults through its signature credential-rich pathways initiative, which leverages stackable credentials to ensure that individuals have multiple on- and off-ramps to career opportunities throughout their academic experience.

“Google is thrilled that National University is offering the Google Career Certificates program to undergraduate and graduate students throughout the country,” said Bronagh Friel, Head Partnerships, Grow with Google. “We’re proud that this offering will help students gain job-ready skills for growing fields as they pursue a degree.”

Research and evaluation will be a core component of this offering. National University plans to closely monitor certificate completion rates over time and assess how these certificates contribute to individual career advancement for learners who participate.

As a veteran-founded Minority Serving Institution, National University has a student population that reflects the shifting — and highly diverse — demographics of higher education today. Well-known for its distinctive focus on serving adult learners, educators and veterans, the university has for more than 50 years honed its unique expertise in developing workforce-relevant degrees and credentials designed specifically for working adults.

Enrollment will open this fall at no or low-cost to current students, current employees and alumni.

Three Ways to Prevent Payment Card Application Abandonment

One-in-ten of those who have abandoned an online payment card application did so for fear of being rejected. This proportion increases to 33% among those with FICO scores less than 670. Pre-approvals could help facilitate application completion for those unsure of their approval odds.

According to the Q2-2023 issue of Cardbeat US, 70% of credit cardholders say they are likely to apply for a new credit card if preapproved. This is especially true for cash back and point card applications.

“While some applicants may be attracted to a card’s value proposition, they may think the card is out of reach,” says Jonathan O’Connor, Senior Manager of Research at Auriemma. “A preapproved offer could be the tipping point that is the difference between application abandonment and completion.”

2) Following up by email or text greatly increases application completion odds.

Over four-in-ten cardholders who have abandoned an online payment card application say they received an email or text reminder that they started but did not finish the application. And this reminder led 45% of them to complete at least one of their outstanding applications.

“While reasons for application abandonment vary, some have more to do with technical or application-centric issues,” says O’Connor. “Reminders allow those who abandoned in frustration the opportunity to complete a process they may have always intended to finish.”

However, reminders do not always work on the first try. On average, those who completed an application following a reminder email or text say that they received over three communications before completing an abandoned application.

3) Make sure communications provide new, valuable information.

Email or text payment card application reminders can be helpful to some, but most want these communications to include new, valuable information. 73% of credit cardholders agree that to be valuable reminders should include fresh details about the card such as new introductory offers, rewards, or benefits.

“Providing increased value or reminding applicants of strong rewards and benefits can offset what otherwise may be seen as an irritating message,” says O’Connor. “While these types of communications are seen as an annoyance to some, offering an opt-out option while emphasizing new details or lesser-known features can motivate application completion without alienating your potential cardholder.”

Online payment card application abandonment is a challenge that can be effectively addressed through strategic measures. By enacting these three strategies, issuers can mitigate application abandonment and foster stronger connections with prospective cardholders, ultimately benefiting issuers and cardholders alike.

Christie display solutions elevate Vogue’s 20th anniversary in Portugal

The organizers recreated a small city divided into two streets in the warehouse of the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon. Each street had its own flavor: one inviting people to go out and the other to live more quietly.

Twenty-two unique projections were made on screens, walls, and floors, and LCD displays were also used to give color and movement to the party. The content, adapted to each space, was conceived and created exclusively for this event by VJ Draft, José Santana, and Sofía Lucas.

Thirty Christie projectors, ranging in brightness, were used, including the Christie M 4K25 RGB pure laser projector, and 1DLP® laser models including the DWU850-GS, DWU635-GS, and D13WU2-HS.

In addition to the projectors, seven Christie LCD panels ranging from 65 to 98 inches including the UHD752-L, UHD652-L, and UHD982-P-A models, all of which feature 4K UHD resolution to deliver exceptional image quality and contrast, were used in the space.

José Cordeiro of ADLC Audiovisuais says, “Christie solutions never disappoint, and their reliability is essential for demanding events of such leading brands. In this case, they allowed us to achieve a major impact for the audience through the different audiovisual attractions.”

He adds: “The visitors were surrounded by images of great impact on the different surfaces of the venue where the party was held. The combination of projections and LCD displays gave great dynamism to the event, captivating the public and creating an atmosphere full of colors and impressive content.

It was a total experience and we are delighted with the variety of AV solutions that Christie offers us to enrich the events of our customers.”

AI and Crypto Will Mutually Thrive With Effective Collaboration: PayBito CEO Raj Chowdhury

The technology sector has progressed by leaps and bounds over the past few decades. Blockchain and artificial intelligence emerged as the most disruptive feats of technological advancements, acting as a catalyst bolstering digital transformation across business processes worldwide. A World Economic Forum survey indicated that blockchain would be powering 10% of the world’s GDP transactions by 2027. The synergy between AI and blockchain across the crypto sphere is more critical than before.

AI’s Role in Crypto Trading: Beyond the Hype:

A notable example of AI’s potential is visible through its inroads in crypto trading. AI-powered trade bots, unlike their conventional counterparts, comprise machine learning features. This allows them to process extensive historical data. This way, AI can play a huge role in price prediction and sentiment analysis. In fact, crypto exchanges like PayBito offer users an opportunity to leverage its AI-powered Data Engine, which analyzes market data and input from seasoned traders.

Blockchain Analytics Empowered by AI:

The PayBito chief, also a blockchain pioneer, states, “AI and blockchain analytics are a dynamic duo in the crypto domain. They generate valuable insights from crypto-generated data, making informed decisions easier than ever.”

The intersection of AI and blockchain brings forth exciting possibilities in the realm of analytics. AI’s exceptional data processing abilities make it a valuable asset in analyzing the vast troves of data generated by cryptocurrencies. It aids in tracking crypto movements, evaluating counterparty risk, and conducting in-depth analysis of on-chain data. Nevertheless, data quality remains a challenge, mainly due to the presence of off-chain data held by centralized exchanges.

Enhancing User Experience Through AI:

Crypto exchanges have been quick to leverage AI to enhance user experience. For example, the US-based PayBito also improves user experience with the integration of the popular large language model(LLM) generator, ChatGPT. The firm offers standardized solutions for retail intermediaries exploring brokerage opportunities with its flagship crypto broker platform and has won awards as the world’s number one white-label crypto exchange provider.

The Ethical Conundrum: Centralization vs. Decentralization:

An ethical conundrum arises when considering the centralization of AI in contrast to the core principles of decentralization championed by the crypto industry. Tech giants currently control advanced AI models behind closed doors, prompting concerns about concentrated power. To align AI with the ethics of crypto, there is a growing need for transparency, collaboration, and the utilization of verifiable data from the blockchain. The development of Web3, a decentralized internet, will bridge this divide and positively impact AI.

A Promising Future Through Collaboration:

While AI has undoubtedly made its mark on crypto trading, analytics, and user experience, it has not reached its full potential. Challenges persist in terms of data quality and ethical alignment. However, the ongoing innovation at the intersection of AI and blockchain promises a bright future. The fate of AI in the crypto space hinges on its ability to embrace transparency, foster collaboration, and harmonize with the decentralization principles that define the crypto industry.
