A Next-Generation Remote Monitoring System that Ensures Uninterrupted AED Readiness

With AED Sentinel, technology can finally replace people to deliver reliable, picture-based AED inspections. The future of remote AED monitoring has arrived.

“AED readiness is one of the most important obligations of AED management. Because the last thing anyone wants is an AED failure during a sudden cardiac arrest emergency when it is needed most,” said Richard Lazar, President of Readiness Systems. “We created a simple and effective way for organizations to manage AEDs and reduce the risk and bad consequences of AED failures. AED Sentinel helps ensure AEDs are always ready to deliver on their life-saving promise.”

Key features of AED Sentinel include:

Easy to Install Cameras and User-Friendly Software: AED Sentinel takes the hassle out of implementation with a fast and easy monitoring camera installation process and very intuitive software that is simple to set up, understand and navigate. All AEDs are easily managed from one central dashboard.

Daily Automatic AED Checks: AED Sentinel safeguards the readiness of AEDs by conducting and documenting automatic daily picture-based inspections that show AEDs are ready.

24/7 Monitoring: Users are alerted when an AED failure is detected, a cabinet door or portable monitoring case is opened, or maintenance is required.

Secure Cellular Communications: AED Sentinel’s secure cellular-connected technology operates independent of an organization’s network infrastructure and doesn’t interfere with the operation of the AED. This allows organizations to sidestep the complexities associated with using Wi-Fi enabled AEDs, including IT department barriers and Wi-Fi connection challenges. Wi-Fi enabled AED connectivity can be unreliable and can drain AED batteries – obstacles avoided with AED Sentinel.

Mobile AED Monitoring in Custom Pelican Cases: AED Sentinel’s customized AED monitoring cases offer an added advantage for mobile operations. Enclosed in customized foam, portable AEDs remain protected while being continuously monitored.

Proven Reliability in Real-World Environments: AED Sentinel has proven to be reliable in both mobile and cabinet environments and both indoors and outside. Its robust design and advanced technology ensure dependable performance, even in challenging conditions.

AED Sentinel will transform the way organizations manage and monitor their AEDs, especially for larger AED fleets. This industry leading AED remote monitoring system ensures uninterrupted AED readiness, improves public safety and provides organizational peace of mind.

FORT Robotics Endpoint Controller for Wireless Safety and Control of Machines and Robots Receives SIL 3 Certification

“In warehousing, manufacturing, heavy equipment, or really any machine environment, there is an increasing need for people and robots to work together,” said Nivedita Ojha, VP of product at FORT. “Our goal is to make that collaboration as productive as possible with minimal risk. With the Endpoint Controller, companies can enhance operational efficiency by commanding multiple machines at once to e-stop, pause, crawl, respond to a fire alarm, and more.”

Scalable, Fleet-Wide Robot and Machine Control
FORT’s Endpoint Controller functions as both a transmitter and a receiver of SIL 3 safety commands. Deploying an SIL 3–certified product helps users comply with safety regulations and ensures that potential risks have been assessed and mitigated. While in the past, this level of reliability was limited to wired hardware, the evolving automation landscape requires the ability to send functionally safe commands over any network, including wireless communication. FORT’s product is one of only a few certified wireless solutions on the market.

“As mobile and autonomous machines become common drivers of productivity, companies must have a reliable means to send safety commands over wireless networks to ensure employees can monitor, respond, or stop machines from a distance if an unsafe scenario emerges,” said FORT CTO Nathan Bivans. “Certification from one of the world’s most trusted safety experts in exida means the device will work as intended, when intended, reducing the risk of harm to people or damage to the equipment.”

The Endpoint Controller can be mounted on a machine or integrated with third-party input devices, such as buttons, safety interlocks, light curtains, or fire alarms, allowing users to trigger automatic wireless communications with a fleet of machines or robots. Additional features include a tamper-proof design, an IP65-rated enclosure, and secure firmware to protect against cybersecurity threats.

Like other FORT devices in the FORT Robotics Control Platform, the Endpoint Controller is built from the ground up to keep people, assets, and data safe and secure. The controller can be securely configured and managed using the FORT Manager cloud platform, available via a no-code application or through API access for direct integration with an existing system.

Clean Cooking Alliance Announces Ground-breaking African Conservation & Clean Cooking Collective

The African Conservation & Clean Cooking Collective will work to promote a more comprehensive and coordinated approach to conservation, restoration, and clean cooking in Africa, by raising awareness and building capacity of conservation organizations to incorporate clean cooking into their programs, fostering innovation, facilitating knowledge sharing, and mobilizing finance for landscape-scale clean cooking interventions.

“AWF commits to continued engagements with the Clean Cooking Alliance as we collectively acknowledge that the just energy transition and restoration are key priorities for Africa,” said Frederick Kwame Kumah, Vice President Global Leadership at the Africa Wildlife Foundation. “Restoration and clean energy transition must go hand in hand to achieve our collective climate adaptation goals. Clean energy must be made accessible with a just transition approach that fits within the African context. Working together will deliver deliberate investments that focus both on the industrial level and household level looking at localization of practical energy solutions that contribute to sustainable development.”

Extending access to clean cooking for communities living near critical landscapes is vital for protecting forest ecosystems and promoting sustainable agroforestry, wildlife conservation, and sustainable livelihoods. Efficient cookstoves can cut fuel use by 30–60%, significantly reducing carbon emissions and pressure on forests, while improving health and resilience.

“We recognize that sustainable change requires strategic investment,” said Olufunso Somorin, Regional Principal Officer, Climate Change and Green Growth Program, African Development Bank. “This partnership is not only catalyzing clean cooking solutions but also driving vital resources into conservation and development programs that will shape a more resilient and prosperous Africa for generations to come.”

This transformative initiative will harness the expertise, networks, and capabilities of each partner to support landscape-scale clean cooking transitions across the continent. Recognizing the importance of African-led solutions, each organization brings unique local knowledge, capabilities and resources to the table, enabling the Collective to effect change at scale, across multiple communities, landscapes, and countries. This marks a historic milestone in the clean cooking and conservation sectors, towards holistically addressing one of the core drivers of nature loss and building resilience for communities across Africa’s most critical landscapes.

Africa cannot achieve its climate, economic, and sustainable development goals without accelerating a rapid shift to clean cooking solutions, but this requires a paradigm shift: mainstreaming clean cooking into broader efforts,” said Dymphna van der Lans, Chief Executive Officer of the Clean Cooking Alliance. “The commitment of these Collective partners represents a hopeful transition away from siloed approaches, to actively mainstreaming clean cooking into the largest conservation and restoration movements on the continent.”

For more information on the integral role that clean cooking plays in protecting and restoring nature, read CCA’s report Accelerating Clean Cooking as a Nature-based Climate Solution.

About CCA:

The Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) works with a global network of partners to build an inclusive industry that makes clean cooking accessible to the 2.3 billion people who live each day without it. Established in 2010, CCA is driving consumer demand, mobilizing investment to build a pipeline of scalable businesses, and fostering an enabling environment that allows the sector to thrive. Clean cooking transforms lives by improving health, protecting the climate and the environment, empowering women, and helping families save time and money.

About AWF:

The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is the leading international conservation organization focused exclusively on Africa’s wildlife and wild lands. AWF’s programs and conservation strategies are designed to protect the wildlife and wild lands of Africa and ensure a more sustainable future for Africa’s people. Access to clean cooking is a significant challenge in all many of AWF’s landscapes. Increasing demand for firewood and charcoal, from both rural and urban areas, is driving substantial habitat and species loss and negatively impacting communities who are the main constituency for conservation.

About AfDB:

The African Development Bank (AfDB) is a multilateral development bank established in 1964 to mobilize resources for the economic and social development of its African member countries. The AfDB strives to reduce poverty and improve living conditions on the continent through promoting sustainable economic growth and social development. The AfDB has been a champion for clean cooking on the continent, funding numerous clean cooking projects – establishing mechanisms like the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), and most recently as an anchor investor in the world’s first impact fund investing in clean cooking solutions – Spark+ Africa.

Tetrate Brings Zero Trust Game Plan to Billington Cybersecurity Summit

Open Source Istio Graduation, Formalization of NIST Standards and Breadth of Service Mesh Offerings Deliver the Zero Trust Blueprint

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — BILLINGTON CYBERSECURITY SUMMIT—With recent advancements in open source service mesh technology, applications like zero trust are coming into focus at the Billington Cybersecurity Summit in Washington DC this week. Tetrate, the company bringing Istio and Envoy to the enterprise, recently completed a collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to define a zero trust architecture blueprint based on open source service mesh technology.

Three recent advancements in zero trust for software developers working for federal agencies are coming into focus at the event, including:

  • 1. The development of zero trust architecture standards as detailed in the NIST special publication 207A.
  • 2. The graduation of open source Istio service mesh by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. Istio is the core technology underpinning the NIST zero trust standard.
  • 3. The release of Tetrate Service Express, powered by Istio and available to federal contractors and agencies implementing zero trust according to the NIST standard. The launch compliments the availability of Tetrate Istio Subscription (TIS), a popular choice among organizations that want support designing and operating their own Istio deployments for Federal projects, including the US Air Force.

In June, the White House released its cybersecurity investment priorities for fiscal 2025. The priorities align with the Federal Zero Trust Strategy released in 2022, which seeks to ensure cybersecurity practices are in place and every access attempt is verified on federal systems and networks. The priorities encourage federal agencies to adopt provisions of the National Cybersecurity Strategy for their upcoming budget and planning cycles. The memo calls on the federal government to modernize its information technology systems by investing in “durable, long-term solutions that are secure by design.”

Additionally, in July, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released an updated Zero Trust Maturity Model (ZTMM). ZTMM 2.0 assists organizations in implementing zero trust policies into their operations.

Taken together, this collection of recent technical advancements and policy guidance provide a clear roadmap for implementation and operation of zero trust architecture for anyone tasked with security applications and infrastructure for the US Federal government.

TIS is the first and only 100% pure upstream Istio distribution to achieve FIPS verification and is hardened for use in enterprise and FedRAMP environments. Tetrate’s engineers bring a deep understanding and expertise of Istio, offering comprehensive support and guidance via the TIS offering.

The engineering leadership team at Tetrate has been deeply involved in the development of Istio from the beginning, as well as instrumental in Istio’s adoption in some of its largest, most mission-critical deployments at organizations like the US Department of Defense and Informatica. Over the last year, Tetrate engineers contributed more code to the Istio and Envoy proxy projects than any other company other than Google.

NIST defines zero trust architecture as a security model, a set of system design principles and a coordinated cybersecurity and system management strategy based on an acknowledgement that threats exist both inside and outside traditional network boundaries. The zero trust security model eliminates implicit trust in any one element, component, node or service and instead requires continuous verification of the operational picture via real-time information from multiple sources to determine access and other system responses.

Meet with the Tetrate team at the Billington Cybersecurity Summit in booth #137 in the Carahsoft Partner pavilion and learn more about implementing zero trust architecture for Federal projects in compliance with White House cybersecurity investment priorities and the Federal Zero Trust Strategy, with the guidance of NIST standards and Tetrate support.

*About Tetrate*
