This new bidirectional interface unlocks the full power of the KL1Plus

Capsa Healthcare, a leading innovator in healthcare delivery solutions for pharmacy and hospital practitioners, announced its Kirby Lester KL1Plus prescription filling device is enhanced with a new bidirectional interface to the widely used McKesson EnterpriseRx pharmacy management software. This is a significant advantage for retail pharmacies to maximize the versatility of the KL1Plus device in pharmacies using EnterpriseRx.
Capsa’s new Kirby Lester bidirectional interface enables pharmacies to fully connect the KL1Plus verification-plus-Rx counting device; Now, all patient prescription filling data will be transported instantly between the KL1Plus and the pharmacy system. EnterpriseRx is a cloud-based system for centralizing a pharmacy’s operations, prescription drug dispensing, data and reporting. EnterpriseRx is a popular system with pharmacies operating multiple locations.
“One of the main reasons a pharmacy runs EnterpriseRx is data management. The same is true for why they now will benefit from installing a Kirby Lester KL1Plus device to physically fill all patient prescriptions. This new bidirectional interface unlocks the full power of the KL1Plus,” says Christopher Thomsen, VP of Business Development for Capsa Healthcare’s Pharmacy Automation Business which includes the Kirby Lester line of automated technology. “Now, with the KL1Plus connected to EnterpriseRx, everything about the status of a prescription fill is tracked and shared in real-time. In the typical hectic environment of today’s pharmacies, this interfacing alleviates tension, avoids Rx filling errors, and improves workflow.”
When a Kirby Lester KL1Plus device is installed in a pharmacy operating EnterpriseRx, the device becomes the main workstation for technicians to fill 100% of patient prescriptions. Once a technician fills a patient script on the KL1Plusd, the device reports back to EnterpriseRx’s pharmacy check function. The new bidirectional interface removes an entire manual step in the process which is a potential source for error and time-waste. The interface also alleviates waiting times at the pharmacy check station. Additionally, the pharmacist reviewing a patient’s filled order will see all processing information for full transparency:
- Status of each prescription in real-time from start to finish
- Which pharmacy technician filled the patient’s prescription
- Time of fill
- Exact medication filled
- Exact quantity (partially filled or overcounted scripts will be highlighted)
- If a double-count was performed (e.g., for a controlled or high-value medication)
- Any alerts or errors during the filling process
- The KL1Plus also can act as the pharmacy’s Electronic C-II Log for full management of controlled medications
“Pharmacies operating EnterpriseRx but still filling prescriptions manually are at a disadvantage,” Thomsen says. “With the KL1Plus device taking over all prescription filling and reporting back all data to EnterpriseRx, the pharmacists at that location are empowered with full data and status of every Rx, instantly. This removes ambiguity, guesswork, and hunting for missing data.”
Capsa Healthcare will attend the NACDS Total Store Expo pharmacy conference in Boston, MA, featuring demonstrations of its prescription filling technology.
