Founder and CEO, Jean Pierre-Louis of capracare was awarded a Proclamation from Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Jr. at the Caribbean Heritage Celebration. The celebration took place on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Queens Museum.
Jean was recognized by the Queens Borough President for his work following the 2021 southern Haiti earthquake and for capracare’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of those in Haiti.
“Queens is most grateful for the significant impact capracare has had in Haiti. I want to give hats off to you. Often these larger organizations…receive all this money, and we say, where does it go? Is it reaching the people? But this organization is on the ground ensuring the Haitian people have what they need and can continue to rebuild. Haitian resilience speaks for itself. Every time they are knocked down, they get back up, and that is partly because we have organizations like capracare which really cares for the people of Haiti.” said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards.
During his acceptance speech, Jean recounted being bullied in school. “I was only 9 years old, but those words served as my motivation. I committed to going back to Haiti to make it a better place to live. I not only wanted to ensure people had access to healthcare but also create jobs so it could be a more productive place. capracare has and will continue to play an integral role in the upward individual, social, and economic development of rural communities throughout the southern region of Haiti. ”
capracare, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides medical care, preventative healthcare, mental health, education, and disaster relief to rural communities throughout the southern region of Haiti.
