In May 2020 the Canadian Family Health Collective, launched Simplify Sobriety, a way to help people change their relationship with alcohol. This online course focuses on changing habits and improving overall health, not just abstinence.
Available for a monthly or annual fee, the Simplify Sobriety course offers weekly classes on nutrition, fitness, relaxation and emotional health. Course members are supported with a private Facebook forum to build connections with like-minded individuals.
Simplify Sobriety was developed by the Canadian Family Health Collective, who pioneered Neural Network Therapy® in 1997. The Canadian Family Health Collective is a small company which started in Peterborough and spread across Canada. They’ve been working in the field of emotional health since 1997 and Simplify Sobriety is the first course to target specific behavioural change.
Neural Network Therapy® is effectively brain training which Canadian Family Health Collective refers to as habit-hacking. They’ve found that this form of intervention is more effective than counselling in relieving stress and anxiety and creating lasting changes in behaviour. And this works for changing our relationship with alcohol too, which is how their Simplify Sobriety course began.
Kim Sargent is the inspiration behind Simplify Sobriety and is the founder of Canadian Family Health Collective. Kim has a unique perspective and insight into the challenges facing many of us, as she’s had to learn to manage anxiety, depression and addiction after a car accident in 2015. As part of a long road to recovery, she now uses her skills in brain training to help manage her daily life.
“I’ve always been passionate about helping people to retrain their brain, to learn new habits and live a healthier life. I worked in the emotional health field for many years and I’ve seen some great results. Realizing that I could use my knowledge and experience to help people curb their drinking felt like the next logical step. There are also emerging theories connecting brain injury and addiction, which are very interesting to me personally. And in these days of COVID, there is more stress which can lead to increased breakdown in any coping strategy, healthy or unhealthy. The timing seemed right and the team at the Canadian Family Health Collective is well trained and already assembled, so they were quick to transform my hope into a reality.” Kim Sargent, founder of Canadian Family Health Collective and inspiration behind Simplify Sobriety.
Initial feedback from those already enjoying the course is inspiring:
“It takes me a while to articulate my experience, but so far I really enjoy the variety of top-notch, innovative resources and the flexible, go at your own pace attitude in this group.”

“Amazing group! So supportive and trusting and safe and they offer the BEST clinical and evidence based and supportive guidance! Very engaging and interactive and yet zero pressure to deadlines. All on your own terms and time. You can take as much or as little in as you can or feel on any given day. So many amazing professionals in one place to offer support and guidance to every aspect of wellness! I feel so welcome and supported. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an option for support with alcohol or any other aspect needed to improve wellness and understand how our brains work.
