Kids learn bike safety at the Bike Rodeo
Riding on bikes with friends is one of the great joys of childhood, but it’s important for kids to know all the rules, so they can be safe while still having fun.

Promoting biking as a mode of transportation as well as recreation, Grossmont Center and the City of La Mesa are proud to co-sponsor a Bike Rodeo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 21. This free, family-friendly event gives children of all ages the opportunity to learn the rules of bicycle safety in a fun and relaxed setting with a superhero theme.
To participate, children should bring a bicycle and a helmet. A limited supply of free helmets are available for those who need one and are given out on a first come, first served basis. During the Bike Rodeo, children can hone essential skills such as braking, steering, and road awareness with the interactive and challenging obstacle course. Kids can also learn proper hand signals and the ABC check that should be done anytime they get on a bike. Local organizations will be on hand to provide resources and information on active transportation, health and wellness, and other subjects.
Families can enjoy music, snacks, and giveaways at the Bike Rodeo. Prizes will be awarded to the children with the best bike decoration and superhero costume, adding to the festive and lively atmosphere.
