BayMark Opens MedMark Treatment Centers In Amherst, Ohio In Response To Community Need

“The COVID-19 pandemic and opioid crisis have intersected, and Ohio is experiencing significant impact from both. BayMark has opened three locations in Ohio this year, in addition to the four in 2019, ensuring that as many people as possible have access to effective opioid treatment.”

BayMark Health Services has announced the opening of MedMark Treatment Centers Amherst, further expanding access to opioid use disorder (OUD) services across Ohio. Located at 530 N. Leavitt Road, just about 30 minutes west of Cleveland, MedMark Amherst is now accepting new patients. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, safety precautions are in place to safely admit those in need of treatment for opioid addiction.

MedMark Amherst will provide medically-supervised, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), utilizing methadone or buprenorphine, as well as substance use counseling and support services. MAT has been proven to be the most effective treatment for opioid addiction, and offers hope to those suffering across the state of Ohio.

David K. White, Ph.D., CEO of BayMark Health Services shared, “The COVID-19 pandemic and opioid crisis have intersected, and Ohio is experiencing significant impact from both. BayMark has opened three locations in Ohio this year, in addition to the four in 2019, ensuring that as many people as possible have access to effective opioid treatment.”

Ohio has been at the heart of the opioid crisis for the past few years as overdose numbers have continued to rise, especially with the recent surge of heroin and fentanyl use. Both are illicit opioids and both are deadly, but fentanyl is more than 50x stronger than heroin, and is becoming more and more common across the state. In response to community need for opioid addiction treatment services in Ohio, MedMark Amherst is the 7th BayMark-owned clinic to open. In addition, BayMark operates three outpatient, office-based opioid treatment (OBOT) programs in Ohio offering in-office clinician appointments, prescription for buprenorphine/Suboxone® which can be filled at the local pharmacy, supported by counseling services and other psychosocial interventions to support recovery. These programs offer a proven alternative to residential or abstinence-based treatment models for OUD.

Medication-assisted treatment reduces the symptoms of opioid withdrawal and cravings, paving the way for patients to focus on addressing the causes and consequences of their addiction and supporting them to regain stability in their lives. In addition to medication MedMark provides addiction education, relapse prevention, lab testing, coordinated care for pregnant women and linkages to community resources to assist patients on their path to recovery.
