Baymark Health Services Acquires Pennsylvania Opioid Treatment Program

Earlier efforts to alleviate the opioid epidemic had begun to produce results with counties across Pennsylvania reporting up to 50% decreases in overdose deaths since 2018.

BayMark Health Services announced the acquisition of Echo Treatment Center, an opioid treatment provider in Washington, Pennsylvania. Echo Treatment provides outpatient medication-assisted treatment (MAT) utilizing methadone and substance abuse counseling and education. The facility will fall under BayMark’s MedMark Treatment Centers brand.

Providing a broad continuum of care for the treatment of substance use disorders, BayMark is an established, trusted provider of comprehensive addiction treatment. Since 2016, Echo Treatment has shared the same focus on providing high-quality treatment for those in need in the greater Pittsburgh area.

In addition to methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) and counseling, services will also include addiction and relapse education, coordinated treatment during pregnancy, in-house lab services and referrals to community resources to assist patients in rebuilding their lives. Methadone, combined with counseling and support services, is known as the gold standard in the treatment of opioid addiction.

“Earlier efforts to alleviate the opioid epidemic had begun to produce results with counties across Pennsylvania reporting up to 50% decreases in overdose deaths since 2018. All of that changed as the opioid crisis intersected with the Covid-19 pandemic this year,” noted David K. White, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of BayMark Health Services. “Overdose deaths are back up across the state, as high as 30% in some areas such as Beaver County with spikes up to 75% in others. Many counties are reporting deaths on track to reach or exceed 2017 high-water marks. It’s clear that treatment options are urgently needed. BayMark has acquired or partnered with 9 programs in Central and Western Pennsylvania since January and will utilize our expertise to improve accessibility in a safe and effective environment.”

Medication-assisted treatment reduces the symptoms of opioid withdrawal and cravings, allowing patients to focus on the underlying causes of their addiction and support them as they develop new, healthier coping mechanisms. Opioid treatment programs offer a proven alternative to residential or abstinence-based treatment models for Opioid Use Disorder.
