Award Winning Actress Karen Abercrombie Partners with Drop the Drugs and the Psi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta for National Drug Take Back Day


Drop the Drugs, Inc. and Psi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. are hosting a free public film screening of “Discarded Things” to demonstrate the life-changing impact prescription drugs can have when misused, abused, or disposed of improperly. The screening will be followed by remarks from the producer and star of the film, Karen Abercrombie. The event’s primary focus is raising awareness about drug mismanagement and providing information on how to properly dispose of medication year-round at DEA-approved drop-off sites.

Since 2018, Drop the Drugs has been committed to the PREVENTION of poisonings and overdoses, the PREVENTION of addiction from prescription drugs due to mishandling, and the PROTECTION of the environment from the harmful effects of pharmaceutical drugs.

The film screening and keynote from Abercrombie will take place in the Oak Room of the historic Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Doors open at 11:30 am CT. The event is scheduled for noon – 4 pm. Seating is limited. Register early!

In addition to the hosts, student members of the Black Professional Pharmacy Association at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth will distribute infographics and answer questions as part of this strategic alliance. Studies show educating the community about the adverse effects of misused prescription drugs saves lives!

ABOUT DROP THE DRUGS, INC.

Drop the Drugs, Inc. was founded in 2018 as a community service initiative. A year later they incorporated as a public charity 501(c)3. Using their website, social media channels, and in-person community outreach, the organization provides education and distributes infographics to raise awareness about the dangers of keeping unused prescriptions in the home or disposing of them improperly. Drop the Drugs has received a commendation from the City Council of Grand Prairie, Texas, and has been featured on Fox 4 News, NBC 5 DFW, and other media outlets for their community service.
