“Joy of the Journey: Awakening”: an engaging and empowering opportunity for spiritual reflection and growth. “Joy of the Journey: Awakening” is the creation of published authors Bernadict Quarles and Carol L.S. McKnight.

Bernadict Quarles is the proud mother of nine with her husband, Bryant L. Quarles, Sr. She has devoted her entire life to service and advocacy, as well as nearly twenty-five years to educating and mentoring youth. Quarles founded Beta Qoph Global Society and obtained her Bachelor of Arts and master’s studies in English literature. She is also the published author of “The Chronicles of Maya and Quincy.” She is a recipient of the Aspire Award 2013 and Empress Menen Award 2018.

Carol L.S. McKnight is wife to Alfred McKnight. She is an aunt, a sister, a friend, a retired US army veteran, and an entrepreneur. McKnight holds several degrees, including a degree in human behavior. She especially loves mentoring young Black girls and helping them to build their self-esteem

Quarles and McKnight share, “Negro spirituals inspired this body of work. Negro spirituals served as a masked storyteller. These spirituals tell the stories of pain, hope, lost, and faith. This book is a part of a four-part series, Joy of the Journey. This volume is Winter: The Season of Awakening, featuring devotions that remind us to let go of the things that bring us pain. This includes relationships, habits, and choices that have hindered us from experiencing the full blessing of the Most High.

“Growing up, attending church with my grandmother, I remember the elders at the front of the church singing these old tunes.
