“Events like this allow even more industry leaders to learn about why certified bedding is an important consideration for reducing triggers of asthma and allergy in the home”

During the New York Home Fashion Market Week 2022, Allergy Standards Ltd. (ASL) was excited to share their latest work as an industry leader in certifying bedding products as a healthier option for people affected by allergies and asthma.
ASL’s asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program is a unique collaboration with the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) that assists consumers, especially ones who experience allergies and asthma, in identifying products that have a scientifically tested impact on indoor air. This collaboration brings together the expertise of ASL in the science of developing standards for indoor air quality and in testing products to meet those standards. AAFA contributes its experience as the oldest and largest non-profit patient advocacy group representing the 65 million Americans who have asthma and allergies.
With more Americans experiencing allergies and asthma from longer and more intense allergy seasons, the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program has become increasingly crucial for bedding manufacturers. Research shows that consumers trust that products with the Certification Mark are proven to reduce asthma and allergy triggers. Retailers have come to demand this Certification Mark for their educated consumers.
“There are many products that claim to help control allergens and irritants,” said Dr. John McKeon, ASL CEO. “However, some products make false or exaggerated claims. As a result, consumers are often unsure what products are the best choice. By understanding product claims, consumers can make more informed decisions about their purchase, creating a better indoor environment for themselves and their loved ones.” he continued.
The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program’s annual consumer research consistently shows that the bedroom is where families are most concerned about asthma and allergy triggers. This is the key message that the ASL leadership brought to bedding manufacturers and retailers at NY Home Fashion Market Week. The event showcased some of the latest and greatest textiles for key retailers in the showrooms of Home Fashion Product Association members (HFPA).
“We are pleased to be a part of this amazing event that brings together so many leaders in the home textile industry,” said Dr. John McKeon, ASL CEO. “Events like this allow even more industry leaders to learn about why certified bedding is an important consideration for reducing triggers of asthma and allergy in the home. And it’s not just those affected by allergies that benefit from CERTIFIED asthma and allergy friendly® products. These products promote a healthier indoor environment for everyone in the household.”
“Market week also enabled us to meet up with many of our certification clients, including Pegasus, Indo Count, and Downlite,” said Dave Morrissey, ASL CIO.
Organized by the HFPA, FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) and Home Textiles Today, the Trailblazers and Titan’s Gala, sponsored partly by ASL, offered networking opportunities and fun along with a raffle and auction. ASL contributed to the scholarship program run by the HFPA Foundation, and contributed a CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® LG air cleaner to the silent auction.
“ASL’s mission is to help people create the healthiest possible indoor environment through science, certification, and education,” McKeon said. “At Market Week, we made efforts to expand our textile client base and retailer awareness, in order to become the first choice in asthma and allergy product certification.
