Aging Media Network Publishes New Report Detailing Senior Housing Industry Outlook for 2020

Last year the industry began to look closely at the shortage of middle market senior housing available to aging consumers. In our survey, we sought to find out what actions industry stakeholders are likely to take in response to this growing issue

Senior Housing News, an Aging Media Network publication, is pleased to announce the results of its annual outlook survey on the state of the senior housing market.

Conducted in collaboration with New York City-based Hunt Real Estate Capital, the commercial lender that was recently acquired by ORIX USA and is merging with Lancaster Pollard and Red Capital Group — the two brands that make up ORIX Real Estate Capital — the survey gathers the opinions of more than 330 industry professionals including owners, operators, developers and more, polled about their senior living industry outlook for 2020.

The survey report includes highlights on how industry stakeholders are planning to invest in the coming year; how they are identifying the most attractive asset types; and how they are approaching market opportunities and challenges in 2020.

In summary, respondents indicated:

  • Occupancy concerns are falling year-over-year

  • Active adult interest has declined since 2019

  • Stakeholders are anticipating repositioning of market rate communities to address middle market demand in the future.

“The survey results indicate a steady investor focus for some asset types, while we were pleased to see sentiments with respect to occupancy have improved over the last year,” said Senior Housing News Editor Tim Mullaney.

In addition to the survey showing how the outlook has changed year-over-year, it also gauged input for the first time on a critical area of focus: middle market senior housing.
