American Family Care (AFC), the nation’s largest provider of urgent care and accessible primary care with multiple locations in Portland, has been approved by the Oregon Health Authority to launch a “test-to-treat” COVID-19 program.
“This program allows patients to get a rapid molecular COVID test, and if positive, immediately receive the full course of the antiviral treatment Molnupiravir, all in one quick on-demand visit. There is no cost for this new medication,” Guru Sankar, AFC Portland’s Managing Partner.
AFC Portland is offering the “test-to-treat” COVID-19 program at its five metropolitan area locations.
“We are really pleased to deliver this new test-to-treat program to Oregon,” said Dr. Andrew Miller, AFC Portland’s Chief Medical Officer. “Clinical trials showed that Molnupiravir decreases hospitalization and death by 50%. Dispensing this FDA-approved COVID-19 treatment in our clinics will certainly prevent emergency room stays and get our patients healthier sooner.”
This is the latest example of AFC expanding its services to meet the needs of our communities. The first shipment of Molnupiravlr, a Merck anti-viral pill, arrived yesterday from the Oregon Health Authority. The first treatment was administered on the afternoon of March 24 at the AFC Urgent Care NE Portland location.
