AdventHealth Tampa Unveils State of the Art Catheterization Lab

Leaders at AdventHealth Tampa recently announced a $2 million investment in advanced heart care utilizing the most recent GE Allia technology for catheterization procedures. According to GE, the technology is the first of its kind in Tampa for heart and vascular procedures, one of only three locations in the state of Florida, and one of only 15 in the United States.

“We now have the clearest and most precise imaging of blood vessels possible which means even better results for our patients,” said Dr. Diego Ayo, vascular surgeon at AdventHealth Tampa. “This new catheterization lab is the most innovative to date and shows our commitment to staying on the forefront of medical advancements and expertise.”

Additionally, the catheterization lab control room is powered by a special monitoring unit from Carrot Medical that is only found in two other locations in the United States. Traditionally, catheterization labs use four to six computer systems with the same number of keyboards to monitor procedures, which would require multiple team members to perform a single task. This updated monitoring system allows for all monitoring to happen on one large screen, integrating into one system. According to Carrot Medical, UCLA and Stanford Medical Centers are the only other facilities using this unique monitoring system.

“The implementation of Carrot Medical’s technology in addition to the massive upgrade to the GE Allia system streamlines how we are able to safely monitor procedures,” said Karen Crisanti, BSN, RN, RCIS, Director of Cardiology Services at AdventHealth Tampa. “This renovated lab will support our team members and patients in a substantial way for years to come.”

In addition to heart and vascular procedures, the lab is adaptable for neurological procedures that also require vascular care. More than $1.3M of the project was funded by the AdventHealth Tampa Foundation Pepin Heart Institute fund.

AdventHealth Tampa is home to expert heart and vascular care, including achieving the American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) accreditations for heart failure, cardiac catheterization, chest pain, electrophysiology, transcatheter valve certification and earned ACC’s HeartCARE Center designation.
