Acumed Partners with Mohit Bhandari, MD, to Create Meta-Analyses for Fracture Care

We need to ensure that the medical devices we design, manufacture, market, and sell create societal value across the globe. And we also want to make sure we are using evidence-based design and conveying responsible, evidence-based messaging.

In partnership with Professor Mohit Bhandari, MD, of McMaster University, Acumed has committed to providing high-quality data that assists the health care community in creating care pathways to treat upper and lower extremity injuries. This data, shared through published meta-analyses, can be used by surgeons to make evidence-based decisions for patient care, and by insurance companies to make evidence-based coverage determinations.

Dr. Bhandari and his team are leading experts with a global research network and high-impact publications in the top orthopaedic medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet. Dr. Bhandari’s articles have been used to transform patient care and set new benchmarks for conducting collaborative research.

Sharon Wolfington, Acumed’s President and CEO said, “Acumed wants to play a role in assisting surgeons, health care providers, and payors by providing evidence in making their treatment decisions. Many payors are looking for justification for surgical intervention vs. conservative care management in orthopaedics.

Wolfington continued, “We need to ensure that the medical devices we design, manufacture, market, and sell create societal value across the globe. And we also want to make sure we are using evidence-based design and conveying responsible, evidence-based messaging. This project has assisted Acumed in achieving those goals, and we believe it will also benefit all health care providers treating extremity patients.”

Said Dr. Bhandari, “We are stronger when we collaborate. Using data-driven decisions in the development of novel orthopaedic products is the most efficient strategy to ensure high-quality healthcare for patients worldwide.”
