IAAR Accreditors meet with ACSOM Administration in Dominica

In an industry where securing WFME accreditors can be a challenge, American Canadian School of Medicine has achieved the remarkable feat of securing accreditation before the start of our inaugural class. This is a truly outstanding achievement

The American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM) is delighted to announce that it will begin its inaugural class with accreditation by the Independent Agency on Accreditation and Rating (IAAR), which is recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). Achieving IAAR accreditation included an extensive inspection of the campus and teaching facilities, intensive review of the curriculum and a series of interviews with faculty and school leadership.

“In an industry where securing WFME accreditors can be a challenge, American Canadian School of Medicine has achieved the remarkable feat of securing accreditation before the start of our inaugural class. This is a truly outstanding achievement,” says Ramin Ahmadi, MD, MPH, founding dean of ACSOM and former associate clinical faculty at Yale School of Medicine.

The state-of-the-art teaching facilities were a significant factor in the school receiving approval by IAAR. ACSOM has classrooms and laboratories outfitted in modern technology, including simulated patient care environments that offer realistic medical experiences to support student learning and development. Traditional amenities are also offered such as a campus library, computer labs, and student lounges.

With the successful completion of the accreditation process, ACSOM is poised to launch its four-year curriculum in August. The program will start with a two-year basic sciences program in Dominica followed by two years of clinical rotations at teaching hospitals located in the United States and Canada.

“American Canadian School of Medicine is truly forward-thinking in its approach to medical education. From the beginning, students are engaged in a team-based, problem-solving learning environment where clinical medicine is intentionally integrated throughout the basic sciences curriculum,” says Ahmadi emphasizing the school’s commitment to ensuring that students are prepared for clinical medicine.

The strength of ASCOM’s curriculum is largely attributed to a dedicated team of full-time physician faculty who bring their training and experience from revered medical schools such as Yale University

School of Medicine, Weil Cornell Medical College, New York University, Penn State University’s Milton S. Hersey Medical Center, SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Western University in Canada.

With enrollment deadlines fast approaching, ACSOM is prepared to receive another surge in applicants in the upcoming weeks.
