“University Hospitals is excited to speak to other healthcare leaders in Ohio about how we got our authorization fax queue down to zero and reduced payer denials by working with MCG.” – Kelly Skorepa, BSN, RN, CCDS, Director of CDI & Utilization Management at University Hospitals

MCG Health, part of the Hearst Health network and an industry leader in technology-enabled, evidence-based guidance, announces its Product Manager for Interoperability Solutions, Daniel Cawood, will co-present with University Hospitals’ Director of Clinical Documentation Integrity & Utilization Management, Kelly Skorepa, BSN, RN, CCDS, at the Ohio Hospital Association’s (OHA) 108th Annual Meeting & Education Summit happening June 12-14, 2023, at the Hilton Columbus at Easton in Columbus, Ohio.

Ms. Skorepa and Mr. Cawood will present the session, “Fostering Payer-Provider Collaboration to Reduce Administrative Burden,” on Tuesday, June 13, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. ET. These experts from University Hospitals and MCG, respectively, will provide a before-and-after analysis of leveraging MCG Indicia for Collaborative Care to streamline the clinical authorization processes with payers. The speakers will detail the challenges University Hospital faced prior to launching the solution, important aspects of the implementation process, and the subsequent results of using the solution – including time-savings and hospital productivity metrics.

Mr. Cawood said of the presentation, “MCG and University Hospitals have a compelling story to share about new technology that is automating clinical authorizations and making a powerful impact on hospital efficiency.”

Ms. Skorepa added, “University Hospitals is excited to speak to other healthcare leaders in Ohio about how we got our authorization fax queue down to zero and reduced payer denials by working with MCG.”

Since the release of a Proposed Rule by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services (CMS) in December 2022, providers and payers have been exploring new technologies to streamline the clinical authorization workflow. MCG, widely seen as the current leader in evidence-based decision support technology, has been collaborating with several payers and hospital systems for the past several years to automate the authorization process. MCG has achieved notable successes in authorization burden reduction with hospitals and health plans in Ohio as well as the Pacific Northwest.
