Litmus Health, the research-ready infrastructure platform for wearables and sensor data, today announced that Cofounder and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Samuel Volchenboum has been appointed as chairman of the Clinical Research Data Sharing Alliance (CRDSA). In his role, Dr. Volchenboum will lead the organization’s board of directors in maximizing the strategic impact of the organization in its push to accelerate drug discovery through the use of high-quality data in the clinical trials process.
Since its founding in 2021, the CRDSA has been focused on serving the clinical data sharing ecosystem by addressing the challenges in the life sciences data sharing ecosystem. Some of the biggest issues are rooted in inconsistent data standards and lack of best practices. With an unprecedented amount of data available to clinical researchers — including relatively new data sources like wearables and sensors — addressing these challenges has never been more pressing. The growing clinical trial software market alone speaks to the tremendous opportunity that lies in maximizing the usability and interoperability of trial data.
“The advancements in data collection and applications over the past decade have presented a tremendous opportunity to rapidly accelerate drug discovery, but there are critical challenges that must be addressed to make the most of these advancements,” said Dr. Volchenboum. “The lack of current data best practices — especially in regards to standards and sharing — means that valuable life-saving insights are locked away in data that is difficult or impossible to use. The CRDSA is addressing these problems head-on by bringing together the best minds from the public and private sectors to develop actionable solutions. I am honored to be serving as chairperson of the organization’s board of directors.”
In addition to serving as Cofounder and Chief Scientific Officer to Litmus Health, Dr. Volchenboum currently serves as Director of Data for the Common Good and their flagship project, the Pediatric Data Commons at the University of Chicago. With his extensive experience in developing clinical research protocols, Dr. Volchenboum is uniquely positioned to lead the CRDSA board and help establish standards for the industry’s future.
