Illinois was the first U.S. state to make surrogacy considerably more affordable for same-sex couples and singles with its amendment to the state’s definition of ‘infertility,’ which resulted in inclusion of same-sex couples in insurance coverage for a part of the process.

Known for its unbiased, comprehensive conferences for gay men, the international nonprofit organization Men Having Babies (MHB) returns to Chicago in cooperation with Center on Halsted, along with 19 reputable gay-friendly agencies, clinics, law firms, and other surrogacy providers from the Midwest and beyond.
This year, MHB has made large changes to the itinerary in order to accommodate the needs and interests of gay men who attend the conference, arriving from the whole Midwest area. The new session ‘Social Attitudes Towards Surrogacy’ was added to provide a larger view on ethical surrogacy, and to discuss some of the major misconceptions held by surrogacy opponents, who often use those to attack the gay community.
Also new, the ‘Surrogacy Costs’ session addresses the biggest concern for gay men, who are often overwhelmed by the financial burden that is involved with having a biological child.
Other new and improved sessions including the panel on Egg Donation, and Foundations for a Successful Journey, while the highly popular ‘Personal Stories Panel’ was expanded to include perspectives of fathers through surrogacy, as well as children born via surrogacy, surrogates and egg donors.
Illinois was the first U.S. state to make surrogacy considerably more affordable for same-sex couples and singles with its amendment to the state’s definition of ‘infertility,’ which resulted in inclusion of same-sex couples in insurance coverage for a part of the process. The conference will discuss how to use this benefit, as well as workplace benefits, financial assistance programs and more.
Steven Snyder from IARC Surrogacy, MHB Advisory Board Member and Chicago conference Platinum Sponsor, said: “As a former high school teacher, I fully understand the value of education. The overwhelming strength of both IARC and Men having Babies is focusing primarily on the critical information and education necessary for a successful third-party reproduction process.”
Proceeds from the conference’s sponsorship fees benefit MHB’s Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP), which provides prospective parents with over a million dollars’ worth of cash grants, discounts and free services on an annual basis, from over 130 leading service providers.
Dr. Shamma from IVF Michigan & Ohio, MHB Advisory Board Member and Platinum Sponsor said: “Education and support are the crucial first steps on this exciting journey to becoming a parent. Men Having Babies’ conferences offer all of that and more.”
The majority of the 19 exhibitors at the MHB Midwest conference are supporters of GPAP, as well as the organization’s Membership Benefits Program, including Platinum sponsors IARC Surrogacy and IVF Michigan & Ohio, and additional conference sponsors: Circle Surrogacy, Kindbody, San Diego Fertility Center, Same Love Surrogacy, Fertility Specialists of Texas, Family Source Consultants, Golden Surrogacy, Fertility Centers of Illinois, Worldwide Surrogacy Specialists, Daylight Grow, Law Office of Ryan C.
