“I believe as a government agency, we can and are effectively helping our citizens meet many of their physical, behavioral health, financial, and social needs,” Dr. Sizer said.

Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) announces its partnership with BKB Ministries as the title sponsor of the “In Defense of Bathsheba (iDOB)” Conference. The title sponsorship supports NEDHSA’s Faith Partnership Initiative, which engages faith-based communities to combat mental illness and addiction in northeast Louisiana.

NEDHSA created partnerships with faith leaders and their congregations because they are uniquely positioned in society to help further NEDHSA’s efforts to stabilize traditional mental health services. On April 28-30 at the Monroe Civic Center, the iDoB conference will create opportunities for people to begin healing from trauma and learn how to address mental illness and substance abuse issues within their own families, congregations, and communities.

NEDHSA Executive Director Dr. Monteic A. Sizer said, “this faith conference will address many of today’s major societal challenges, including trauma, sexual assault, community violence, and mental illness.”

“I believe as a government agency, we can and are effectively helping our citizens meet many of their physical, behavioral health, financial, and social needs,” Dr. Sizer said. “However, the government cannot solve complex societal problems alone. This is why we call on houses of faith to join us as we battle our region and state’s mental, physical, social, financial, and spiritual needs.”

iDOB will feature panelists, musicians, keynote speakers, and more throughout the multi-day event. In the Bible, a woman named Bathsheba experienced trauma at the hands of a man named David. David used his position to take advantage of Bathsheba, he had her husband murdered, and she lost her baby. She did not have the luxury of counseling or therapy. After learning of the death of her husband, she was given seven days to mourn, and then she moved to the palace. One can only imagine what these experiences did to her psychologically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

The iDOB conference will have NEDHSA’s Prevention and Wellness staff, Integrated Care staff, and other counselors, therapists, and mental health professionals on-site. The conference is focused on healing Bathsheba in both males and females.

BKB Ministries Founder Dr. Bakari Beckwith said, “the In Defense of Bathsheba conference offers the unique combination of spirituality and mental health services.”

“By partnering with NEDHSA, we can provide services that will holistically transform the lives of the people in our community,” Dr. Beckwith said.
