Duet is pleased to partner with Dr. Barry Kerzin on Friday, April 14 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. MST to host a one-hour virtual webinar addressing the impacts of empathy fatigue on health and well-being. The free event will provide participants with the opportunity to hear from Ven. Barry Kerzin, M.D., an American physician, and Buddhist monk serving as the personal physician of the 14th Dalai Lama.
“The event is open to family caregivers across the country who need support and resources along the caregiving journey,” said Ann Wheat, executive director, Duet. “This webinar will provide tools on mindfulness, reducing caregiver stress and provide a place for a group of like-minded individuals gather virtually.”
Dr. Kerzin is the founder and president of the Altruism in Medicine Institute and founder and chairman of the Human Values Institute in Japan, as well as an adjunct professor at both the University of Hong Kong and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
“Empathy fatigue is real,” said Dr. Kerzin. “It’s a natural offspring of the world we have been working and living in. Post-pandemic life has resulted in a dramatic rise in stress-related diseases, loneliness and depression, drug overdose, economic pressures, violence to self and others, and a seemingly unending sense of global unrest. We still care for those we serve but our resilience may be running low. We need to learn how to engage in healthy self-care and practice more mindfulness.”
Dr. Kerzin will help us navigate how to holistically gain well-being amidst challenging times. To register for the webinar visit: meaningandhope.org/webinar. If you require additional assistance, contact Roseanne Nguyen at nguyen@duetaz.org.
