Becoming a Fellow of the OMA is one of the highest honors reserved for those who demonstrate dedication and commitment to the clinical treatment of obesity and obesity-related diseases.

The Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) recently designated Carol N. Rowsemitt, PhD, RN, FNP-C, as a Fellow of the organization. Becoming a Fellow of the OMA is one of the highest honors reserved for those who demonstrate dedication and commitment to the clinical treatment of obesity and obesity-related diseases.

Rowsemitt met a list of criteria to become a Fellow of OMA. She has been a member of OMA for five years and has received extensive education focused on treating obesity in a clinical setting. She also worked to advance the practice of obesity medicine by serving on the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Committee.

“I am grateful to receive this honor,” Rowsemitt said. “Being a Fellow of OMA allows me to stand out as someone who is passionate about the field and continues to seek new ways to treat obesity successfully.”

“I am able to help my patients overcome this chronic disease and become healthier by using an evidence-based clinical approach. As an active member of OMA, I keep learning and have a network of providers with whom I can consult,” she added.

Rowsemitt is a nurse practitioner and CEO of Comprehensive Weight Management, in Templeton, CA and Providence, RI. She works to help patients lose weight and achieve better overall health. As a member of OMA, Rowsemitt is part of the largest organization of like-minded clinicians dedicated to treating obesity and other obesity-related chronic diseases.

Rowsemitt has a unique understanding of the physiological reasons people have trouble losing weight. She specializes in helping patients understand that their battle with weight loss is more than a matter of will power. Her practice and treatment regimen accounts for the biological changes in brain chemistry that are a determining factor in the effectiveness of a person’s weight loss. Rowsemitt gained a unique insight into the factors of weight gain from her studies and work as a biologist before acquiring her nursing degrees. Rowsemitt received her Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in chemistry from Boston University, her Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Utah, then went on to achieve first a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Utah, then her Master’s degree in nursing with an emphasis in diabetes care.

The Obesity Medicine Association is the largest organization of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care professionals who work to improve the lives of patients affected by obesity. OMA members are clinical experts in obesity medicine. They use a comprehensive, scientific, and individualized approach when treating obesity, which helps patients achieve their health and weight goals. OMA offers resources, education, and community to physicians and other health care providers in the field of obesity medicine.
