SAN DIEGO (PRWEB)
January 30, 2023
Griswold, the in-home senior care franchise with 170 locations in 31 states, is celebrating its most recent opening in San Diego thanks to local residents April and Scott Kohnen. April’s mother and grandmother were also professional caregivers, which led her to a job working in a residential care setting early in her career. Now, she’s taking that experience and following in their footsteps to continue her family’s legacy of care with Griswold.
There are more than 3.3 million people age 65 and older living in San Diego County, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and American Community Survey. That number is expected to double in the next 25 years as the population continues its aging trend, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projects. Griswold Home Care for North San Diego, will help the growing number of seniors in the region by providing in-home care that allows them to stay in a familiar environment and retain their independence. Without the astronomical costs of assisted living facilities and nursing homes, home care provides seniors with the ability to live in the comfort and security of their homes.
“Providing a service that allows seniors and adults with illness or disability in our community to remain at home while receiving companionship and care is greatly rewarding,” said April Kohnen. “I was inspired by first responders during the pandemic to create something meaningful, so when I was looking at opportunities for business ownership, Griswold was the perfect fit.”
Founded in 1982 as the first non-medical home care franchise in the United States, Griswold is backed by over 40 years of experience providing quality home care to the elderly, disabled adults, and individuals recovering from illness or surgery. Griswold was founded by Dr. Jean Griswold, a senior care professional who had multiple sclerosis and recognized firsthand that the elderly often lacked the assistance they needed to remain independent at home.
Providing everything from companionship, personal care, and homemaking to fall prevention and recovery, to overnight and 24/7 care, Griswold Home Care for North San Diego’s comprehensive service helps keep people safe, healthy, and cared for in their own homes.
The Kohnens are prioritizing building a workforce of professional in-home care providers who are experienced, skilled, and compassionate. They are also implementing state-of-the-art technology to remotely monitor clients’ health. The wearable device, exclusively designed for older adults, notices the small changes that can precede serious risks like falls, malnutrition, depression, and UTIs – enabling early attention days before something more serious occurs.
“The care we provide to our communities is something we’re extremely proud of, and we are excited to bring that same level of care to San Diego,” said Griswold CEO Mike Slupecki. “We are confident that April and Scott are the perfect partners to help us provide our high-level of quality in-home care in their area.”
