Ideal Option Opens Second Addiction Clinic in Albuquerque

Ideal Option, a national leader in evidence-based outpatient treatment for addiction to opioids, methamphetamine, alcohol and polysubstance, is now welcoming patients at its newest location at 8400 Osuna Rd NE in Albuquerque. Patients will receive personalized, evidence-based treatment with buprenorphine and other FDA-approved medications from an onsite addiction medicine specialist.

Fentanyl, a dangerous and highly addictive synthetic opioid, is widely available in New Mexico. According to the CDC National Center for Health Statistics, there were 595 drug overdose deaths due to synthetic opioids reported in New Mexico during the 12-month period ending in December 2021, an 89% increase from the 315 deaths reported during the same period the year before.

“What we are hearing from so many folks is…people don’t know that fentanyl is out there and…one pill can kill,” said Adriann Barboa, county commission chair with Bernalillo County.

Ideal Option’s 2021 Annual Patient Outcomes Report for New Mexico shows fentanyl positive rates at enrollment were up by 104% displacing heroin positive rates which were down by 44% compared to 2020. The data also support the effectiveness of treatment. Among patients who remained in treatment with Ideal Option during 2021, urine drug testing shows:

  • 96% less fentanyl use
  • 92% less total opioid use
  • 95% less heroin use
  • 88% less methamphetamine use

The new clinic in Albuquerque comes at a time of desperate need for expanded access to evidence-based treatment from experienced providers. Ideal Option has been specializing in addiction medicine using buprenorphine-based medications such as Suboxone® for 10 years and currently operates 84 clinics across 11 states.

“Because of our scale, we’re able to start new patients within 1-3 days, not several weeks like many other providers who are overwhelmed by the demand. Opening a second clinic in Albuquerque means we can help so many more people start and remain in life-saving treatment,” said Athena Huckaby, community outreach coordinator for Ideal Option in New Mexico.

The new Ideal Option clinic in Albuquerque is open Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. and is located at 8400 Osuna Rd NE, Ste. 2D, Albuquerque, NM 87111.

Most forms of insurance are accepted, including Medicare and Medicaid, and patients can typically get started on treatment for fentanyl, heroin, alcohol or other substances within 1-3 business days.
