Southwestern Eye Center Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Serving Arizona

Southwest Eye Center’s 40th Anniversary of serving Arizona

“I know Dr. Bluth would be proud of the commitment everyone on the Southwestern Eye Center team shows to our patients on a regular basis. Truly, none of this would possible without them,” said Armstrong.

Southwestern Eye Center, an affiliate of American Vision Partners, is happy to be celebrating its 40th Anniversary.

Dr. Lothaire Bluth founded Southwestern Eye Center in 1982 in Mesa, Arizona. His vision was to provide the highest-quality eye care throughout Arizona. He saw underserved communities and purposefully opened his first clinic right next to the Falcon Field Airport so that he and his team could fly across the state to provide ophthalmic care.

“He really set the bar for how to treat people,” said Shane Armstrong, CEO of American Vision Partners. Dr. Bluth was best known for his pure drive to care for people, both in the sense of caring for his patients and in supporting his team of doctors and staff.

“It was watching him take care of patients both in surgery and in the clinic that really introduced me to eye care but also helped me to develop the ideals of caring for people, of wanting to help people, serving people. So he really impacted me in that way,” explained Dr. Jordan Bluth, OD, son of Dr. Lothaire Bluth and optometrist at Southwestern Eye Center.

While Dr. Lothaire Bluth is not able to celebrate the 40th Anniversary with the Southwestern Eye Center team, his values continue to make an impact. As Southwestern Eye Center has grown, Dr. Bluth’s vision has expanded with clinics across Arizona and New Mexico and continues to impact new partnerships across the Southwestern United States.

“When I decided that I wanted to go into eye care, my goal was to work with this organization just because I know the quality of the doctors and the people that have worked here. I’m proud to be able to say I’m part of the Southwestern Eye Center family, as well as a Bluth,” said Jordan Bluth, OD.

Southwestern Eye Center is now home to 58 optometrists and ophthalmologists, serving 21 clinics and communities with specialty eye care including care for cataracts, retinal disease, dry eye, corneal disease, glaucoma, LASIK and oculoplastics.

“I know Dr. Bluth would be proud of the commitment everyone on the Southwestern Eye Center team shows to our patients on a regular basis. Truly, none of this would possible without them,” said Armstrong.
