Inspired by a particularly difficult time in his life, author Jacob Tanner spent the last six years working with his mother, Cindy Tanner, to share his story. Diagnosed at age four with high-functioning autism, Tanner, along with his family began to chronicle the events in his life. The culmination is his new book “I Wonder Why I Have Autism.”

“I want this book to be a tool of inspiration,” Tanner said. “It can be used to give hope to kids who have similar struggles, and to their parents, who need guidance to help.”

In “I Wonder Why I Have Autism,” Tanner tells his story and what living with high-functioning autism is like. Written from his perspective, he shares his experiences, struggles, and his successes with school, friends, pets, and teachers. The book also includes insights from Tanner’s parents and friends.

Tanner credits his faith for helping him and his family understand and overcome the struggles that can come with an autism diagnosis.

“I want to thank God,” Tanner said. “Without him, I would not have overcome anything and would not have the strength to continue working through struggles that come my way.”
