“Silony’s German-engineered products provide surgeons with the precision and flexibility on a consistent basis, while their local representation provides first class service.” – Dr. Syed Aftab

Silony Medical, a medical technology company producing meticulously thoughtful spine solutions, has announced the company’s first robotic-assisted and navigated surgery in the UK. The procedure was performed in the UK’s largest trauma center, the Royal London Hospital (NHS) by acclaimed spine surgeons, Dr. Syed Aftab and Dr. Alexander Montgomery. The surgery, which took place on July 22, 2019, was undertaken using the Verticale MIS Posterior Spinal Fixation System.

Due to the increasing pressure to reduce costs in the healthcare systems in general, many hospitals are faced with the challenge of creating ever more efficient procedures in the area of surgery. This is why Silony develops its products specifically with cost and time pressures in mind. An extensive assessment by the Institute for Health Economics Munich in November 2016 confirmed that Silony products offer considerable potential for saving costs, time and resources in hospitals. Using the example of a hospital specialized in spinal surgery, a significant cost advantage was calculated for the VERTICALE system when compared with two competitors’ products. These savings involved a number of factors, including the needs-based supply and easy and practical handling of the Silony products which led to considerable cost reductions. Annual savings of over 200 working hours were calculated for processing and cleaning preparation, while maintenance and function testing work was reduced by more than 270 hours over the same period.

Dr. Aftab, a Consultant Spinal Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal London (Barts Health NHS Trust), stated, “Silony’s German-engineered products provide surgeons with the precision and flexibility on a consistent basis, while their local representation provides first class service.”

Dr. Montgomery said, “I’m pleased to say that the Verticale MIS system is intuitive and given the complexity of the case, performed exceptionally well. The patient is recovering well and continues to make steady progress.”

With the insight and guidance of more than 30 of world’s leading surgeons behind their products, Silony is able to deliver medical devices that meet the exacting needs of surgeons and their patients.
