As we have done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and during any major health concern, we are in communication with our clients and our employees to ensure they have the latest information on the monkeypox outbreak.

Servicon, Southern California’s leading hospital environmental services (EVS) provider and commercial cleaning services company, is keeping clients’ facilities and their occupants safe and informed in the face of the growing monkeypox outbreak.

With more than 25,000 cases worldwide and at least 10 reported deaths, monkeypox has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization and a U.S. public health emergency by the Biden administration.

As experts in infection prevention—and an organization with a 98% voluntary employee COVID-19 vaccination rate—Servicon has extensive experience in dealing with viruses and other pathogens. The company offers several services to protect facilities and their occupants against the spread of monkeypox, SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19), and other viruses and pathogens. Included in its infection-prevention arsenal are the company’s Protect & Disinfect and Ultimate Protect & Disinfect services; which program is called for depends on the facility’s likelihood of exposure.

In addition to its infection-prevention services, Servicon is ensuring its clients and employees have the latest information about monkeypox.

“As we have done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and during any major health concern, we are in communication with our clients and our employees to ensure they have the latest information on the monkeypox outbreak,” says Servicon CEO Laurie Sewell. “We have several thoroughly researched articles on monkeypox on our website, including an FAQ and specific information for EVS hospital staff to ensure they understand how the virus is transmitted, its symptoms, and what precautions to take to protect themselves and their patients. We are ready and able to tackle monkeypox at any of our clients’ facilities.”

About Monkeypox

Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection by the monkeypox virus. The virus belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus, which also includes the virus that causes smallpox. The first human case of monkeypox was recorded in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Until the recent outbreak, cases outside Africa have been mainly tied to international travel or imported animals.

Monkeypox is believed to be transmitted from person to person primarily through direct contact with lesions or contaminated materials, such as clothing or bed linens. The virus also can be transmitted through respiratory droplets, although because of their weight, the droplets don’t stay airborne for long.

Symptoms of monkeypox in humans usually appear between seven and 14 days, although they can occur anytime within five and 21 days. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and exhaustion. Infected individuals typically develop a rash starting on the face that spreads to other parts of the body within three days of having a fever. Symptoms usually last two to four weeks.
