Lotus Rising International, a nonprofit that provides holistic recovery programs for child sex-trafficking survivors, has announced a new training program for its volunteers.
Lotus Rising’s current programs include a variety of all-natural therapies ranging from yoga to sound therapy and are administered by volunteers, mostly on a local scale. The new volunteer training program will dramatically expand Lotus Rising’s reach by providing online curriculum, training and certification to qualified instructors in yoga, meditation, dance, art, sound therapy and more to allow these instructors to serve child sex-trafficking survivors in their own local communities across the globe.
“I have seen survivors in various stages of recovery and volunteers who, even though they have great intentions, have not been trained on how to specifically work with those experiencing such emotional trauma,” said Maria Aparis, founder and CEO of Lotus Rising International. “I see our training program strengthening the volunteer community with the knowledge needed to successfully work with survivors as well as providing other nonprofit organizations with the help they need to continue to thrive.”
Unlike other human-trafficking intervention organizations, Lotus Rising International’s recovery programs focus not only on survivors’ physical needs but their mental, emotional and even spiritual needs as well. This holistic approach to recovery is specifically designed to provide participants with the necessary skills to restore their well-being and propel their recovery after trauma.
“It’s exciting to see what more of an impact we can have,” said Sara Bohmholdt, a board member of Lotus Rising International. “We have received so much positive feedback from program participants, case managers and our partner organizations, so we’re thrilled to be able to continue to share these programs with even more children who need them.”
