Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) announces its Annual Impact Report for the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 (FY22), a document highlighting the agency’s service in fulfilling its mission to Northeast Louisiana.
NEDHSA Board of Directors Chairman Michael K. Shipp said he expresses his support and gratitude for the “innovation, creation of partnerships, and development of evidence-based practices in fulfilling the agency’s mission.”
“NEDHSA took on a ground-breaking initiative last year through its Rise Above Stigma work, and this report will show that lives have been changed,” Shipp said. “The agency carefully and compassionately engaged the region’s vulnerable populations in non-traditional ways through psychodramas, hip-hop music, and its mobile app. We are proud to serve in the capacity we do in supporting the work of the executive director, the staff, contractors, and many others who work to make NEDHSA what it is.”
The report reveals NEDHSA’s work in its 12-parish service area, where it delivered outpatient behavioral health services to more than 1,400 outpatient clients, providing more than 25,500 billable and non-billable services. In working with its funded Network of Care partnerships, NEDHSA served 826 clients in inpatient facilities.
NEDHSA Executive Director Dr. Monteic A. Sizer said, “the agency found that it must continue to meet the needs of the region’s people consistently, respectfully, and where they are.”
“As we continue to provide prevention and clinical services to individuals diagnosed with mental illnesses, addictive and substance use disorders, and developmental disability challenges, we remain committed to working across societal issues such as race, class, poverty, geographic isolation, and health stigma.” Dr. Sizer said. “Our annual report shows the value of our integrated health model and how it works to improve population health outcomes in our region.”
The annual report reveals that NEDHSA reviewed 580 applications for developmental disability eligibility, provided oversight, including Statement of Approval, to 339 participants, and provided Act-378 Program Services to 625 individuals. NEDHSA also provided valuable prevention and wellness services and education in FY2022, including completing 1,000 SYNAR compliance checks, distributing 1,382 NARCAN kits, and disseminating substance abuse prevention and treatment information to more than 1,154,999 citizens.
NEDHSA’s Director of Behavioral and Primary Health Analytics, Dr. Dependra Bhatta, said, “the agency’s integrated health approach is providing greater access to critical services needed by the most vulnerable in the region.”
“Particularly in our behavioral health clinics: a higher number of Black clients and male clients were diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum & other psychotic disorders,” Dr. Bhatta said. “For White clients and female clients, depressive disorders were most common. Anxiety, bipolar and related disorders, schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders, and depressive disorders were higher in the 36-50 years age group.”
The report also shows NEDHSA’s client satisfaction and outcomes for FY2022, indicating high client satisfaction rates, with 98% of clients stating they would continue NEDHSA services and would recommend our clinics and services to their family, friends, and others. More than 83% of surveyed existing adult clients seen in NEDHSA outpatient clinics reported improved functioning, and over 80% of adult clients reported positive treatment outcomes and positive social connectedness. More than 70% of adult clients in FY2022 reported reduced alcohol/drug use.
Dr. Sizer added, “We will continue to innovate, integrate, form committed partnerships, be a catalyst for, and inspire those we serve. We understand the importance of our work in the lives of so many individuals, families, and communities in Louisiana’s Delta.”
