Women’s Excellence Recognizes and Celebrates Breastfeeding Awareness Month

One small way in which we can play an active role in breastfeeding awareness is to help mothers feel comfortable nursing in public.

Breastfeeding has many known health benefits for mother and baby and is widely accepted as an effective strategy to promote positive health outcomes for both mothers and their babies. During the month of August, Women’s Excellence dedicates their outreach efforts to increase awareness of the importance and benefits of breastfeeding.

“The proven health benefits from breastfeeding make it important for us to work together to help reduce barriers that breastfeeding mothers face and create a culture in the community where women feel comfortable and empowered to breastfeed their babies. Breast milk contains all the nutrients, antioxidants, enzymes and antibodies a baby needs, and breastfeeding can reduce the risk for childhood illnesses including colds, asthma, ear infections, pneumonia, diabetes, leukemia, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Additionally, the Office of the Surgeon General has found that breastfed infants are less likely to become obese in the future, and mothers who breastfeed have less risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers.
