United Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF) was honored to be the Title Patient Sponsor of the 8th annual Twisted Pink Gala “An Evening Inspired” at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY held on Saturday, July 16, 2022. The Gala was an immense success, raising $221,650 in total proceeds and providing hope, positivity, and celebration to 400 attendees.
The event was held to raise critical funds to support metastatic breast cancer research and educate the public on metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Attendees included people facing metastatic breast cancer, breast cancer survivors, oncology professionals, researchers, and caregivers along with friends and supporters of Twisted Pink. Thanks to UBCF’s sponsorship, 16 patients and their guests (for a total of 32 people) attend the event at no cost.
Stephanie Jones, Twisted Pink’s Community Outreach Coordinator, shared “Thanks to the United Breast Cancer Foundation, Twisted Pink was able to welcome more individuals affected by breast cancer from all over the country for this year’s annual gala. This is a first for Twisted Pink to be able to invite individuals as far away as New York and Wisconsin and pamper them at no cost. This expanded support is a direct result of the commitment from UBCF as our 2022 Title Patient Sponsor,” Jones continued, “The patients, survivors and our entire organization are forever grateful. The future for support of breast cancer patients looks bright after ‘An Evening Inspired.’ We are eager to continue this amazing work with UBCF for some exciting future opportunities and together create more hope in action in the months and years to come.”
UBCF has been collaborating with Twisted Pink for several years and the 2022 sponsorship is one of the most significant collaborations. The Gala was an opportunity to highlight that separately, both organizations contribute positively to the breast cancer community in unique ways, and when two organizations join forces, the impact multiplies. Twisted Pink benefits patients by contributing to MBC research. UBCF helps patients, survivors, and families on a more individual level with direct financial support.
Ken Petterson, UBCF’s Senior VP of Donor Engagement and Philanthropy, attended the Gala and shared, “I always enjoy our work with Twisted Pink – to provide hope and connection to people living with metastatic breast cancer by funding bold breakthroughs in research and awareness of the disease.” Petterson continued, “Twisted Pink’s vision is a world where breast cancer is eliminated, and until that glorious day arrives, UBCF is here to make a positive difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer! I believe our joint collaboration is critical to empowering women and men affected by breast cancer!”
As the Title Patient Sponsor, UBCF facilitated a lovely evening filled with dancing, inspiring speeches, and an auction. Elaine, a metastatic breast cancer patient and gala attendee shared, “I couldn’t end my evening without thanking Twisted Pink and United Cancer Foundation for making this a truly Cinderella night for me and my friend Robin!!! All of you will be in my heart and daily prayers ❤ Words cannot express my gratitude.”
