Valerie Sykes was raised in Maryland near Washington, DC where she currently lives and works for the Federal Government. She has been an active member in a number of Protestant churches and ministries for more than 30 years. Sykes has served as chaplain for a large usher board, been part of a nursing home outreach team, and participated in several intercessory prayer groups and events. She is a wife and mother of seven adult children and several grandchildren.
