The MaxZone system solved the spillage and dust issues so the idlers and trackers no longer seize up. To correct the take-up spillage, Benetech added an extended tail box and sealed the entire loading zone, allowing the take-up to keep the correct tension on the belt.

Bulk material–handling specialists Benetech, Inc. have recently solved another production and safety challenge at a U.S. cement plant.

Located in the West, the facility had been contending with extreme spillage and dust as well as a poor material flow in its load zones due to the material type and the belt length. The excessive spillage on both belt sides caused the take-up pulleys to seize and the belt to mistrack. The spillage along the length also clogged idlers and tracker trainers. Other system issues included an improper loading angle, which damaged the belt, and poor idler spacing, which created belt sag and a lack of sealing on the belt.

In addition to losing costly material, the plant was forced into daily downtime for extra cleaning and maintenance. The fugitive dust and escaped material also began creating safety hazards for plant personnel.

Facility management consulted Benetech for a solution. After identifying the problem points and removing the existing skirt system, Benetech installed a 40-foot MaxZone® Modular Skirtboard and Belt Support system with inspection doors, tracker trainers, a V-Plow, dust curtains, idlers, peaked hoods, sealing skirt rubber with quick release clamps, and externally adjustable internal wearliners.

The MaxZone system solved the spillage and dust issues so the idlers and trackers no longer seize up. To correct the take-up spillage, Benetech added an extended tail box and sealed the entire loading zone, allowing the take-up to keep the correct tension on the belt.

To improve the flow of material, Benetech modified the existing chute to bring it closer to the belt for much gentler loading and impact, which reduced dust and spillage as well.

Beyond greatly enhancing dust control, material flow and retention, and conveyor-belt life, Benetech’s solution drastically reduced the plant’s maintenance expenses and hours. The plant also achieved more consistent production while making the facility safer for staff.

To support sustainable results after system installation, Benetech trained and worked alongside plant personnel to help ensure proper operation and maintenance.

Benetech’s solutions for cement plants include both custom engineering, procurement and construction as well as integration of new technology into existing systems. The company’s capabilities with bulk cement will be on display in booth 112 at the 38th International Cement Seminar & Exhibition on November 19-21, 2019, at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.
