Dr. Roy Davidovitch, a top Manhattan, New York orthopedic hip surgeon (http://www.orthopedichipsurgeonsnyc.com) has been invited to speak at the prestigious International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty (ISTA) 32nd Annual Congress, October 2-5, 2019 in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Davidovitch will be speaking on ”Opioid Sparing Protocols for THA to Reduce the Need for Opiates”.
Concern for opioid abuse in the medical community post-surgery continues to remain paramount in both orthopedic literature and popular media. Dr. Davidovitch will discuss his firsthand experience with protocols he has used to dramatically minimize opioid use post surgically.
According the CDC/NCHS, US Department of Health and Human Services, “Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the total economic burden of prescription opioid misuse alone in the United States is $78.5 billion a year, including the costs of healthcare, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement.
Dr. Davidovitch stated, “In my orthopedic surgery community in NYC we are taking serious steps to reduce opioid addiction. I have developed protocols to reduce opioid dependency post surgery in my practice and I hope the attendees to my session walk away with actionable insight on how to reduce opioid consumption with their patients.”
About The International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty (ISTA): ISTA is a nonprofit corporation whose goal is to promote public awareness, education and research, in arthroplasty. The means by which this purpose is achieved is through ISTA’s Annual Congress where emerging technologies are discussed between surgeons, engineers, and industry.
