“I want people to know they never need to suffer in silence alone and that the more we speak about our invisible illnesses the more awareness we can bring to them.”

Endometriosis is one of the biggest causes of female infertility and affects an estimated 1 in 10 women during their reproductive years. Author Melissa Marks details the raw emotion she has faced enduring endometriosis, infertility and loss in her debut book, “Fight Faithfully: The Strength it Takes to Keep Fighting When No One Can See Your Pain.” Everyone has a story to tell, and Marks wanted to share hers with a prayer to help at least one person see that they do not have to go through the uphill battle alone.
In “Fight Faithfully,” Marks documents the events and emotions that unfolded when she found out at the age of 22 that all of her pain could be summed up in one word: endometriosis. She went through years of procedures and treatment resulting in little to no relief. Endometriosis spiraled into infertility issues that surfaced at the age of 26. Marks suffered the loss of two children but with faith, persistence and determination had a beautiful baby girl after her third and final embryo transfer.
Throughout the book, Marks offers motivational advice for others suffering from hardship. She highlights holding onto the people who understand the pain and that do not fault for the uncontrollable things that may come along the way. She emphasizes that once one sets their mind to something to stick with it and at times when one may feel alone, sometimes all it takes is speaking up, and one will realize there are many people out there that may not be so different from them. She also discusses not trying too hard to get empathy from others and that people can only give what they have.
“The biggest goal I have for my book is to bring people to a place of feeling known, seen and understood,” said Marks. “I want people to know they never need to suffer in silence alone and that the more we speak about our invisible illnesses the more awareness we can bring to them.”
Ultimately, with her touching memoir, Marks reminds readers that the faithful fight really boils down to the strength it takes to keep fighting when no one can see the pain. No matter what battle a reader is fighting, they will be able to resonate with Marks’ message of hope.
