Katherine H. Capps, Co-founder and Executive Director of the Get the Medications Right Institute, will join leaders from the Get the Medications Right Institute on a panel at The Journal of Precision Medicine’s Precision Medicine Leaders Summit on Pharmacogenomics taking place virtually on Tuesday, October 19. The panel, “Improving Patient Outcomes Through the Integration of Pharmacogenomic Testing into Comprehensive Medication Management Care Models,” will discuss the value of precision medicine and pharmacogenomic testing services in CMM care models.
The panel will feature medication experts Ghada Elnashar, PharmD, MS, Medical Science Liaison, OneOme; Anthony P. Morreale, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, FASHP, Associate Chief Consultant, Clinical Pharmacy and Policy, Department of Veterans Affairs Pharmacy Benefits Management, VA Central Office; and Jacques Turgeon, BPharm, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Executive Officer, TRHC Precision Pharmacotherapy, Research and Development Institute – the group recently published a report that explores the value of precision medicine and pharmacogenomic testing services in CMM care models.
The role of pharmacogenomics in the clinical setting is shifting from a reactive testing approach toward a preemptive model. The GTMRx Institute—and its membership of over 1,400 health care leaders—advocates for the broad adoption of comprehensive medication management (CMM), a more rational process of care in which physicians and clinical pharmacists work together to ensure that each medication is appropriate for the patient, effective for their medical condition, safe given the patient’s health status and other medications and able to be taken by the patient as intended. The Institute believes that companion and complementary diagnostics, used as part of the CMM process, may serve as an important tool to target correct therapies.
