Ideal Option, a national leader in evidence-based treatment for addiction to substances such as fentanyl, heroin, illicit opioids, alcohol, and methamphetamine has opened its newest clinic at 1617 Grove St., Marysville, WA 98270.
Snohomish County experienced 232 drug overdose deaths in 2020, the most recorded in history and a 46% increase from 2019, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner. According to a recent briefing, the Snohomish Health District believes fentanyl is to blame for the dramatic increase.
Fentanyl, a highly addictive and potent synthetic opioid that is plentiful and cheap compared to other opioids like heroin, is currently driving the overdose crisis. According to the CDC, while overdose deaths overall increased by 38% in WA state from 2019 – 2020, overdose deaths due to synthetic opioids increased by 101%.
The upward trend of fentanyl use in Washington State is continuing in 2021. According to the Washington State Department of Health, “preliminary data show 418 overdose deaths in the first three months of 2021 compared to 378 overdose deaths in the first three months of 2020. Of the 418 overdose deaths in 2021, 46% (191) of these deaths are linked to fentanyl.”
“Our lab data also shows a staggering increase in fentanyl use among enrolling patients this year,” said Dr. Brian Dawson, chief medical officer at Ideal Option. “Among our Washington State Medicaid patients, nearly 50% tested positive for fentanyl at enrollment in July 2021 – a 71% increase over July 2020.”
In response to this data, Ideal Option has implemented new treatment and support protocols to help patients through the difficult transition phase from fentanyl to buprenorphine. More information on these protocols was shared in a recent webinar presentation with Dr. Dawson, the recording of which can be found at http://www.idealoption.com/events.
The new Ideal Option clinic in Marysville is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. and is located at 1617 Grove St., Marysville, WA 98270.
Most forms of insurance are accepted, including Medicare and Medicaid, and patients can typically get started on treatment for fentanyl, heroin, alcohol or other substances within 1-3 business days.
