MedShift, a Charlotte-based Medical Technology company, is announcing the future of medical device IoT. The Cord, a miniaturized connected device form factor, is now available to support manufacturer devices in 165 countries. MedShift’s proprietary IoT Cloud, machine learning platform, and encrypted cellular communication technology will facilitate procedure, anomaly, and usage reporting in real-time, with deployment characteristics as easy as plugging the medical device into a power outlet.
Over the past five years, MedShift has continued to advance and aid device manufacturers and practices, providing the industry’s leading medical device connectivity platform. The Cord is the next step in MedShift’s IoT journey. A medical device using this form factor can be quickly integrated into MedShift’s IoT Cloud allowing unparalleled deployment ease.
MedShift previously released a fully integrated IoT hardware option, which received FDA verification, but that offering requires on-device software updates during the design process. Unlike MedShift’s fully integrated hardware, The Cord does not require software updates or integration, and provides MedShift’s full-service IoT stack cleverly located inside the device’s power cord. Manufacturers can simply ship The Cord in place of their current power cord, and enjoy full fidelity, real-time, big data analytics from their entire device lineup. Following a short training period on a single device, The Cord utilizes machine learning to help accurately identify treatment scenarios and detect anomalies in device operation, allowing MedShift-connected devices to “learn” from each other through MedShift’s proprietary Cloud platform.
“When we created MedShift, one of our goals was to use our connected device know-how to provide manufacturers and doctors with significant insight into their device usage data, to further enhance their products and results. With this new form factor and our machine learning enabled cloud platform, we are able to offer users immediate insight without a complex and lengthy integration process,” said MedShift CEO, Brian Phillips.
Utilizing The Cord is as easy as replacing the power cord. Key features of The Cord include a secure HIPAA compliant cellular connection to MedShift’s IoT Cloud, treatment data reporting, device anomaly alerting, geolocation, remote shutoff, and more. MedShift’s Director of Engineering, Adam Walsh, who has led the development of The Cord, said, “The Cord provides instant data access with zero integration work and is a game-changing technology in the field of medical devices. I am proud of what my team was able to develop and we look forward to powering the next generation of smarter medical devices.”
The Cord is an exciting development for MedShift as they continue to innovate within the Medical Technology industry. The Cord will be available in the second quarter of 2021. For more information on The Cord and MedShift’s other developments, visit https://medshift.com/iot today.
