Several leading health insurance experts will be providing guidance on how to navigate the health insurance appeals process after a denial of care during a complimentary webinar scheduled for December 10, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. ET. To register for the webinar click here.
The webinar builds upon The Health Insurance Appeals Guide which was published by Denials Management to inform consumers and treating providers on the key steps when filing appeals claims associated with mental health and substance use disorder (MH/SUD) treatment services. Complimentary copies of the Guide can be downloaded here.
Over the last several decades, many federal and state laws have been adopted to protect consumers and providers when a health insurer denies a request for coverage or does not reimburse for care. Unfortunately, hundreds of different pathways exist when filing an appeal depending on what type of health insurance coverage is involved, where the patient lives, the type of adverse benefit determination, the timing of the denial, and the level of appeal.
Given all of this complexity, the webinar will highlight many of the key touchpoints to successfully file a health insurance appeal. The session will feature tips from experts who have decades of experience helping consumers and providers reverse insurance denials.
The December 10th webinar will be moderated by Garry Carneal, JD, MA, President & CEO, Schooner Strategies, and will feature two nationally-recognized speakers:
-Mary Covington, President, Denials Management
-Brian S. King, JD, Founder, Brian S. King, PC.
“A primary goal of The Health Insurance Appeals Guide and this webinar is to empower individuals to better understand their rights to file a health insurance appeal”, notes Mary Covington, President, Denials Management and co-author. “Whether the individual is a patient, provider, family member, caregiver, or advocate, our shared health care goal is to get the right care to the right patient at the right time. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done.” Ms. Covington and her advocacy firm have helped hundreds of patients and providers reverse denials to ensure patients are getting the care they need.
“After the appeals process is exhausted, patients and providers often only have one choice and that is to sue the health plan, third party administrator or self-funded employer plan sponsor to ensure inappropriate denials are not upheld,” remarks Brian S King, Founder, Brian S. King, PC. “Over the years, the courts have begun to recognize the need to allow plaintiffs to have their day in court to protect against unlawful parity violations.” Mr. King is a national expert in this type of litigation, including challenging health plans regarding mental health parity violations pursuant to The Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 also known as MHPAEA.
The webinar and publication are sponsored in part by Schooner Strategies to help promote transparency and equity regarding how MH/SUD services are covered and reimbursed by health plans.
