SPH Analytics, the top ranked member experience measurement firm in the health plan market, announced today that all 21 Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MA-PD) health plans receiving the highest 5 Star Rating in the 2021 Part C and D Star ratings are SPH clients, according to reports recently released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The Star Ratings are used by CMS to determine quality bonus payments for MA-PD plans. SPH is the leading provider of Medicare CAHPS and HOS surveys that measure consumer experience and access to care. CMS leverages this data annually to calculate experience and access measures that contribute to a plan’s Star Rating. CMS increased the weight of these measures from 1.5 to 2 for the 2021 Star Ratings. This weighting value will double again to 4 in 2023, meaning experience-related metrics will determine 57 percent of the overall Star Rating calculation.
