Lincoln Military Housing (LMH), the nation’s leading provider of homes for military families, hosted a blood drive where generous donors who came together to save an estimated 150 lives.
The Oct. 8, 2020 event, held at LMH’s Camp Pendleton community just outside its housing assignment office in San Diego County, had 62 participating donors who collectively gave 52 pints of blood. Another dozen donors were deferred.
Each unit has the potential to save up to three lives.
The drive, which practiced COVID-19 safety measures and was a partnership with the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP), had a lot of social media buzz in anticipation. LMH families, residents and staff participated in the drive from all over Camp Pendleton to support the cause that coincided with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They were eager to learn about the next event.
“We are so happy with the results of this drive,” Jill Dorflinger, Regional Vice President. “Everyone really stepped up in a time of need to donate. Their generosity demonstrates the heart and camaraderie our military families and team members have for their community.”
The ASBP and the LMH Community Services Team are currently planning future blood drive events for communities in the San Diego area.
The ASBP is the official military provider of blood products to U.S. armed forces. Service members are often confused and erroneously believe that a civilian collection agency provides blood products to the military community. That is not true. The ASBP is one of four organizations that ensure our nation has a safe, potent blood supply. We work closely with our civilian counterparts in times of need. However, the ASBP is the official blood collection, manufacturing, transport, and transfusion program for the U.S. military.
