Tyanna Foundation Kicks Off 2020 Breast Cancer Awareness Month with NEW CONCEPT – BreastFest in a Bag

“We are thankful to The Tyanna Foundation…Their philanthropic support has made it possible for Mercy to provide excellent care to thousands of women diagnosed and treated for breast cancer.” — Neil B. Friedman, M.D., FACS, Director, Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy.

After 22 years of in-person annual events, The Tyanna Foundation is presenting a new concept in 2020 whereby people can show their support in the battle against breast cancer by purchasing “BreastFest in a Bag.”

Known for their signature slogan “Save the Girls”, The Tyanna Foundation has hosted successful cocktails-for-a-cause style events, raising funds for The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, along with other organizations in their sister cities: Dewey Beach, DE, Philadelphia, PA; Athens, GA and South Jersey.

“We are thankful to The Tyanna Foundation for the ongoing generosity and support of Mercy’s mission of healing and service. Their philanthropic support has made it possible for Mercy to provide excellent care to thousands of women diagnosed and treated for breast cancer,” said Neil B. Friedman, M.D., FACS, Director, The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy, and Medical Director, The Weinberg Center for Women’s Health & Medicine at Mercy.

According to Dr. Friedman, over the past 20+ years, through this event and others, the Tyanna Foundation has provided over $1.5 million to Mercy to support breast cancer centers, services and programs including:

  • The Tyanna O’Brien Fellowship in Women’s Imaging at Mercy
  • Patient Education and Transportation Assistance
  • Prosthetics and Lymphedema Garments for patients in need
  • Clinical programming support, updated technology and advanced medical equipment such as 3D mammography

Said BreastFest founder Anne O’Brien about the new concept, “I’m thrilled with the idea of BreastFest in a Bag, not just for 2020, but I hope we can continue it as a new fundraiser every year, in addition to our traditional BreastFest at Nick’s Fish House. I’m blown away by the generosity of our sponsors in such a trying year and very encouraged by how many bags we’ve sold in a few short days.”

Orders for BreastFest in a Bag can be made at https://form.jotform.com/The_Tyanna/breastfest-in-a-bag. For $75, Tyanna Foundation supporters will receive a a tote bag filled with a cozy blanket, Tervis-brand insulated tumbler, charging bank, neck gaiter, signature drink ingredients for a special “virtual toast” to take place on Saturday, Nov. 7th. Bags will be available for pickup on Sat., Nov. 7th, 1-3 p.m. at Nick’s Fish House at 2100 Insulator Drive (bags can also be mailed for an additional $12.95).

The Tyanna Foundation (http://www.Tyanna.org) was founded by five sisters. The organization gets its name from Tyanna Barre O’Brien who lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 48. Through the work of her daughters Anne, Bridget, Megan, Sara and Katie—and everyone who raises a glass (and awareness) in a mother’s honor, Tyanna’s legacy lives on.
